"You're young; you don't understand my good intentions. You're my own flesh and blood, and I wouldn't deceive you, let alone harm my grandchild."

"If you don't want to hurt them, you should respect our wishes. What's happiness? What's genuinely good for us? It's only good if you think it's good, right?"

Emmett frowned deeply, feeling like the day he'd move out of this place wasn't far off.

His mother just kept being pushy. Sooner or later, Clara would pick a fight with him over this.

Emmett raised an eyebrow and asked, "Why the sudden act of kindness? Out with it! What happened?"

Clara chuckled, "It's nothing really, just... I want to bring my father back to the country."

"Why do you suddenly want to bring him back? Didn't you say he's always giving you a hard time?"

"Yes, he's definitely a pain in the ass, but he's my dad! I don't have any other family in this world, so I thought I'd bring him back. Don't worry; he won’t be living with me, and I’ll just stay in the country.”
