Two Times the Charm (Clara and Emmett) novel Chapter 363

After hearing this, Newell sighed in relief on the other end of the phone.

"If you're willing to help me out, then my family might make it. But aren't you scared Leah might do something to you?"

"I've got nothing to lose, man. She, at most, can only take my life. Don't worry about me."

Newell felt a pang of guilt upon hearing this. He'd called Elio to cut ties, afraid of being suspected if Leah failed. He hadn't expected Elio to be ready to sacrifice himself for his family.

"Just so you know, Leah won't lay a finger on me for now. I'll get your family out first."

"Uh...thanks, man! Didn't think you'd risk your neck for me." They weren't exactly close in the family. They hardly had any contact outside of family gatherings.

Newell was suddenly regretting teaming up with Leah. But he'd already taken his share.

There was no turning back!

After hanging up, Elio gripped the steering wheel, heading towards Leah's place.

He glanced back at a black bag on the back seat, his brow furrowed.

It was a gas bomb Elio had prepared a while ago, ready to go down with Leah if necessary.

He was willing to do it to protect the kids.

It was all his doing, and he should be the one to end it.

...

Night fell, and the wind started to blow.

The cool breeze brushed past her cheeks, as if a storm were imminent.
