Two Times the Charm (Clara and Emmett) novel Chapter 377

Emmett frowned. "I never thought about that."

Then he moved his lips, speaking in a low voice, "I'll get the best doctor for Leah. She saved my kids; I can't let her get hurt. As for the rest... Mom, I think you should drop those thoughts. I'm not going to be with her."

With that, he turned to leave. Sophia quickly followed and grabbed him. "You still want to mess around with Clara?"

Emmett paused. He didn't say a word and just simply walked away.

Sophia stomped her foot in frustration behind him. "Listen here! I won't let her ruin the Melendez name! As long as I'm around, she's not stepping foot in our house!"

Emmett heard what Sophia said, but he was done talking about Clara; even thinking about her made him sick.

...

Emmett left the hospital and got in the car as Ricardo looked at him cautiously. "Mr. Melendez, do we still need to look for Mrs. Melendez?"

"No, don't mention her in front of me again, and don't call her Mrs. Melendez anymore."

Ricardo was surprised. "Did you guys have a fight? Or are you blaming her? Mr. Melendez, that news can't be true. I've been around Mrs. Melendez for a while, and I think she's a good, innocent person; she wouldn't do something like that."

"What if she told me herself?"

Clara hesitated on the other end. "I'm sorry, I let you down."

"It's not about letting me down. What's going on with you and Mr. Melendez?" Ricardo asked anxiously, "Mr. Melendez just told me that the news is true. How can that be? Are you lying to him? Or is there something you just can't say? Tell me, what can't you say? I’ll help you.”

Clara was silent for a moment and then said softly, "There's nothing I can't say. I just really don't want to be with..."

"No way! I absolutely don't believe it!" Ricardo said loudly, "You and Mr. Melendez clearly love each other deeply. I can feel it; how could it come to this? You already know that Mr. Melendez has money and power and he can solve any problem! You just need to tell him your troubles."

"I don't have any troubles." Clara paused. "I don't love him. No amount of power or wealth can change how I feel about him."
