It was now deep into the night.
In the CEO's office, Emmett was still engrossed in his paperwork, throwing himself into his work without giving himself a chance to take a breather.
Because as soon as he stopped, he would think of Clara and the words she had said to him.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
Emmett frowned and muttered, "Come in."
The door opened. He thought it would be Ricardo; however, a fragrance of food wafted in.
Emmett looked up to see Sophia holding a thermal flask in her hand, her face beaming with a caring smile.
"Haven't you knocked off yet? I've been waiting for you at home for so long that the soup I cooked has gotten cold, so I brought it over."
"Busy." Emmett glanced at his mother, pursed his lips, and said no more, continuing to focus on the documents in his hands.
Sophia walked over, placing the soup in front of him. "Have some. I know you're not in a good mood, but you can't neglect your health. You are the backbone of the Melendez family."
Emmett waved his hand. "I’m not hungry. I've already eaten."
"Nonsense! I've asked Ricardo, and he told me that you've locked yourself in this office since you came back and haven’t let anyone enter."
Seeing that her son didn’t reply, Sophia continued, "Is it because of Clara? I knew it! Did she say something to you?"
When her name was mentioned again, Emmett suddenly lost his patience, and he tightly clenched his fists. "Can you stop bothering me? I need to work! Leave the soup here; I'll have it later. You can go back now."
