Clara furrowed her brows, "I swear, I didn't! She just tripped and fell. I didn't even touch her!"
Before Sophia could respond, Leah's eyes began to well up with tears, "Sophia, I appreciate you standing up for me, but please, let it go. I'm afraid she'll go and tattle to Emmett, and he'll kick me out! It’s okay. I promise I'm fine. See?"
"I didn't..." Clara's words were cut short as a swift slap landed on her cheek.
Five red fingerprints appeared on her pale face, standing out abruptly.
The force of Sophia's slap made Clara stumble back a few steps before regaining her balance.
"I'm telling you, don't think that because you're still Mrs. Melendez, my son will always protect you! Even if you can still join the Melendez family, you'll never win my son's heart! Don’t think that Emmett bringing you back here means he'll forgive and forget. I won't give you that chance! I'm going to talk to him and have you kicked out!"
Upon hearing that, Leah quickly intervened, "Sophia, please don't fight with Emmett on my account. I don't want to cause trouble and make him hate me. I just want to stay by my two sons' side, taking care of them and watching them grow. Clara, no matter what, Emmett still loves her. If you suddenly demand to kick her out, I'm afraid Emmett will think I'm playing tricks…”
Sophia patted her hand, her expression changed to a warm one, in stark contrast to how she treated Clara, “You needn't worry. This little witch blinded Emmett, and even I, his mother, couldn't say anything. But things have changed. She ruined her own position, and my son will eventually realize that I, as his mother, am doing this for his own good. Even if he's upset with you, I'll explain to him that this was all my doing, and you had nothing to do with it."
