The Melendez family had Leah still around. What if Clara's visit to Emmett was misconstrued yet again?

To get her hands on the antidote, Clara had tried her best to avoid any encounters with Emmett, but he seemed determined to seek her out.

"Enough with the chatter! If the young master calls for you, you better get moving!" the butler grumbled, a look of impatience on his face. "Remember, don't upset the young master. If he's unhappy, I'll make sure you're not having a good time either. In the Melendez house, you're a maid, and when orders come your way, there's no room for refusal!"

Knowing there was no way to evade the situation, Clara nodded reluctantly.

She deliberately took a detour through the back yard to Emmett's room. As soon as she stepped inside, before she could even approach Emmett...

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door!

Startled, Clara instinctively hid behind the door, holding her breath.

"Emmett, it's me, Leah. Sophia sent me over with some hangover remedy."

Upon hearing Leah's voice, Clara didn't dare breathe a word! If Leah were to walk right in and see her in Emmett's room, there would be no way she could explain herself!

"Emmett, are you there?" Leah knocked again.

Just as Clara's heart was about to leap out of her chest, Emmett suddenly sat up on his bed, his handsome face clouded in a drunken haze, his expression grim. "Beat it. I don't need any hangover remedy, and I don't want to be disturbed!"

Hearing Emmett's voice, Leah responded in disappointment, "Alright then, sorry for interrupting your rest! I'll leave the hangover remedy at your doorstep. If you need it, take it inside. I won't disturb your rest anymore."

Listening to Leah's fading footsteps, Clara only allowed herself to breathe a sigh of relief once they were completely out of earshot.

With a thud, Emmett lay back down on the bed, his slender finger motioning, "Water, give me water!"

Clara froze, was he talking to her?

She hurriedly poured Emmett a glass of water and handed it to him. Emmett didn't open his eyes yet he knew her direction.
