"Hey there."

"You're already there? Why didn't you give me a heads up?" Emmett's voice was calm and devoid of any scolding.

This put Clara at ease a bit.

"I got busy calming the kid down as soon as I arrived, so I didn't get a chance to inform you." Clara glanced at puzzled Elio and walked to a corner to make a phone call, "What's up?"

"No biggie, I just thought you got lost."

"I'm not a kid, how could I get lost? If there's nothing else, I'm hanging up!"

Emmett paused on the other end, "You seem a bit scared."

Why does he always see through Clara's lies?

"Why would I be scared?!" She coughed a few times, trying to sound composed, "If there's nothing else, I really need to go soothe the kid! He's still crying."

"Do you need me to come over?"

"No!"

Emmett said in a low voice, "Clara, don't interact with other men!"

"I got it, I won't cause any scandal for the Melendez family!"

"If anything comes up, call me. If you need money, tell me."

Clara just wanted to hang up now, afraid that he might sense her emotions.

But Emmett seemed to do it on purpose and bluntly asked, "By the way, have you found anything new about that little boy I asked you to investigate?"

"…" Clara almost fainted in fear upon hearing this and broke out in a cold sweat.

"Why are you silent? You always seem a bit off when this topic comes up."

"I just don't know how to report it to you because I haven't found any clues! And I'm abroad now, so it's even harder for me to get any updates!"

"Who was that?" Elio asked as she hung up.

Clara put away her phone, "Nah, nothing! It was our CEO asking for when I can get back to work."

"You should've just told him you were quitting. You might need some time before you can return."

"Is there someone who can help you?" Clara pretended not to hear him.

"Yeah, I'll sort it out, then you can come over. Don't worry." Elio sighed, looking at Clara, "Are you really not considering marrying me?"

"Elio, now's not the time for this. Can you stop joking around? We should drop this topic. If Alex keeps hearing upsetting things, it won't be good for him. He's still young, so I don't want him to know too much too soon."

Elio shook his head helplessly, "I think your son knows more than me!"
