Without a word, the figures in dark clothing dragged Dylan and Harper further into the shadows of the alley.
Ripped away from their intimate moment, Dylan glared at the men who had ruined everything. “Who the hell are you people? You wrecked my night!” he shouted angrily.
The next second, a sharp slap cracked across his face. Dylan’s cheek immediately flared red. The sting cut through his haze, and he finally got a clear look at the bulky man in dark attire standing before him.
Fear instantly gripped him. “L–Look, guys… what’s this all about?” he stammered.
One of the men stepped forward. “You two are the ones who posted those pictures online of the CEO of Horizon Corp with that woman, correct?”
Hearing the question, both Dylan and Harper’s eyes widened sharply, and they sucked in a startled breath. Dylan’s mind raced. It seemed these men had been sent by Matthew.
“What pictures? I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Dylan lied, feigning ignorance.
“No idea?”
“Help him remember,” the leader said coldly, dispensing with argument. He gave a slight nod to one of his subordinates.
Immediately, another man stepped toward Dylan. Without a word, he raised his hand and delivered two hard, backhanded slaps to Dylan’s face. The blows made Dylan’s head swim. He staggered and fell to the grimy pavement with a heavy thud.
“How dare you hit him?!” Harper shrieked, though terror was evident in her voice as she shouted at the assailants. “Honey, are you okay?” she asked frantically, trying to help Dylan up.
Dylan was still dazed from the beating. He tried to steady himself, holding his throbbing head.
The lead man spoke again, his voice icy, “Remember now?”
Dylan cowered fearfully but stuck to his story. “I really don’t know! You’ve definitely got the wrong guy.”
“Playing tough, huh? You think not admitting it will save you?”
“Since his memory is still fuzzy, help him recall it properly,” the leader instructed, nodding again to his
men.
The same man who had slapped Dylan before advanced on him once more.
Dylan covered his face, pleading, “Please, don’t hit me again! I swear I’m not the guy you’re after. I don’t understand what you want!”

Ignoring his pleas, the man coldly grabbed him by the collar. Several hard, driving punches immediately followed, landing deep in Dylan’s gut.
Dylan had never been beaten like this. Unable to withstand the pain, he clutched his stomach, dropped to his knees, and groaned in agony.
Harper, beside him, was so terrified she burst into tears. She had never witnessed such violence. She wanted to help Dylan, but the menacing presence of the dark–clad figures rooted her to the spot, paralyzed by fear.
All she could do was sob and beg, “Please stop hitting him! We really don’t know anything! You’ve got wrong people!”

The man glanced dismissively at Harper, then looked back at Dylan writhing on the ground. “Keep going,” he ordered coldly.
The subordinate delivered several more brutal kicks to Dylan’s ribs and back.
Dylan immediately curled into a ball, rolling several times in the filth of the alley before finally crying out, “Stop! Please, stop! I’ll talk! I’ll tell you everything!”
Unable to endure any more, Dylan had no choice but to surrender.
Seeing he was finally ready to talk, the leader looked down at him with disdain. “Talk. Now.”
“The stuff online… I did it,” Dylan gasped out. “But I wasn’t targeting Mr. Stewart! I was going after that girl! She’s horrible–humiliated me before. I posted those pictures just to get back at her.
“I didn’t know the guy with her was Mr. Stewart! If I had known, I would never have posted a picture of him!” Dylan babbled quickly, trying to shift the blame.
“Please, sirs, have mercy. I’m a nobody. Please explain to Mr. Stewart I meant no disrespect to him. Just let me go!” He desperately tried to convince them his grievance was only with the woman, hoping it might spare him.
