The lead man in dark attire stepped closer to Dylan. “Haven’t you realized it yet? The person you shouldn’t have crossed is that woman.”

“You were sent by her?” Dylan stared at the man, his eyes wide with dawning horror.

The leader wasted no more breath. He stood up and moved aside. Immediately, his men seized Dylan and Harper again.

“Let go of me! Dylan and Harper struggled desperately, but their thrashing was useless against the men’s firm grips.

The next moment, agonized screams tore through the depths of the alley. No matter how loud they were, they were swallowed by the thumping bass music from the nearby club.

Seeing their task was complete, the lead man said coldly, “Let’s go.” With that, they dumped Dylan and Harper onto the ground and vanished into the night.

As soon as she was free, Harper scrambled to Dylan’s side. “Honey, stay with me! I’m getting you to a hospital right now!” she cried.

Dylan was already beyond words, consumed by pain.

Harper struggled to support Dylan, whose hand hung at a sickening angle, as they stumbled toward the alley’s entrance.

Hidden in the shadows, Colton and his team had captured the entire scene on video.

“Colton, Dylan’s hand is already broken. Do we still need to intervene?” a subordinate asked Colton.

“No need. Since someone else did our job for us, we stay out of it.

“Secure the footage and let’s pull back.” With that, Colton left quietly with his men, a satisfied smirk on his face.

Unbeknownst to them, everything that had transpired had also been witnessed by the men Andy had dispatched.

After receiving the report, Andy promptly went to Matthew’s office.

“Mr. Stewart, our people report that two unidentified groups intervened before we could. Dylan and Harper have already been dealt with.

“Dylan’s hand is broken. Harper is currently trying to get him to a hospital,” Andy reported solemnly.

In that case, issue the order. No hospital is to treat Dylan,” Matthew instructed, his eyes darkening.

Matthew frowned slightly, pondering Andy’s report. Two groups? Could it be that besides Frank, someone else was also protecting Arabella…?

In the back of a taxi, Harper was a tear–stricken mess, her makeup smeared. She cradled Dylan, who trembled violently in her arms. “Just hang on a little longer, Honey, We’re almost there,” she sobbed, trying to sound comforting.

“It hurts… it hurts so much…” Dylan moaned incessantly, his face slick with cold sweat.

Harper looked from Dylan’s pain–wracked form to the driver in desperation. “Sir, please hurry! He can’t take much more of this!”

“Miss, I’m going as fast as I can! We’re almost there, just hold on!” the driver replied, anxious but not daring to speed recklessly.

Time crawled by. Twenty agonizing minutes later, the taxi finally screeched to a halt in front of a large hospital.

Before it had fully stopped, Harper had the door open. She half–dragged, half–carried Dylan toward the bright emergency entrance.

“Doctor! Somebody! We need a doctor! My boyfriend is hurt!” Harper screamed as they burst into the lobby.

Her cries soon attracted the attention of a triage nurse.

“What seems to be the problem here?” the nurse asked, looking them over.

“Hurry! My boyfriend’s hand is broken! Fix it, please!” Harper pleaded, frantic.

The nurse glanced at Dylan’s clearly injured hand and paused. Wasn’t this the exact patient they had just been instructed not to treat?

“What are you waiting for? Take us to the ER now!” Harper demanded impatiently, her brow furrowed in distress.

“I’m… I’m very sorry,” the nurse began, her tone apologetic. “But your boyfriend’s injury… It’s beyond our capability to treat here. You need to go to a different hospital. Quickly.”

“Beyond your capability? How is that possible? This is a major hospital! You can’t set a broken bone?” Harper questioned, utterly bewildered and angry.
