“You don’t know where exactly I left it. Don’t worry–I’ll just run back and grab it.” Arabella gave Alfred a reassuring look.
She gestured toward the car. “Go wait in the car with Edward.”
“Alright, but be quick,” Alfred reminded her, then guided Edward toward the parked vehicle.
Arabella turned and walked briskly back toward the main hospital entrance.
At the same time, a sedan pulled into the hospital’s main drive.
From behind the wheel, Calvin spotted Arabella’s figure, and his gaze turned venomous.
“That little troublemaker still has the nerve to show her face here,” Calvin muttered through clenched teeth.
His sister was still out on bail under medical supervision, and Carter remained in lockup with no clear release date–and yet she dared to come here! What was she even doing at the hospital?
The frustration of the last two days, running around trying to clean up the mess without a perfect solution, boiled over into a fresh wave of resentment.
Watching Arabella, Calvin’s vision seemed to tinge with red. Almost without conscious thought, his foot pressed down harder on the accelerator, and the car lurched forward, speeding directly toward her.
Sensing sudden movement, Arabella turned and saw a vehicle bearing down on her.
“Look out!” Just as she tried to jump aside, a figure rushed over, wrapping an arm around her and pulling her out of the path with a swift yank.
“Are you hurt?” Lucas looked at Arabella, his concern evident.
Seeing it was Lucas who had pulled her to safety, Arabella shook her head. “I’m fine.”
She looked toward the car that had just charged at them. It had veered off the driveway, crashed through a low decorative shrubbery border with a sickening crunch, and come to a grinding halt.
Lucas frowned deeply. “What is wrong with that guy?”
By then, Calvin had already shoved the driver’s door open and stumbled out. Dizzy from the impact, he swayed, bracing himself against the crumpled hood to stay upright.
Despite his disorientation, he pointed a shaking finger at Arabella, his voice fierce “Hey, watch where you’re walking! If i hadn’t swerved to avoid you, my car wouldn’t be totaled! You’re paying for the damages!”
Arabella was momentarily speechless. This guy actually had the audacity to spin it that way?
“Avoid me?” It had looked for all the world like he was aiming for her.
Lucas‘ eyes turned to ice. “You were driving recklessly on hospital property and nearly hit a pedestrian. Now you’re trying to blame
the victim?”
“She’s the one who walked right out in front of me! That’s why I lost control and wrecked my carl Do you have any idea what this

model costs? It’s ruined because of her, and she’s covering it!” Calvin doubled down, acting as though he wouldn’t leave until he got compensation.
Even if he couldn’t make the brat suffer physically right now, forcing her and her so–called family to fork over a huge repair bill would bankrupt them. That was a decent consolation.
“I’walked out‘ in front of you?” Arabella’s eyebrow arched. “This isn’t even a pedestrian crosswalk. You drove off the driveway toward the building. How is that my fault?”
Lucas gave Calvin a once–over, his expression grim. “She’s right. It looked intentional to me. Like you tried to hit her.”
“I didn’t even touch her! My car’s the only thing that got wrecked, so you pay up!” Calvin stood his ground, though a flicker of panic was starting to show.
Lucas‘ eyes narrowed slightly. “Seems you’ve forgotten something–this is a hospital campus. There are security cameras covering every angle. How about we let the police sort it out?”
With that, Lucas pulled out his phone as if to dial 911.
Seeing this, Calvin’s bravado instantly crumbled. He couldn’t get picked up by the police–not with his sister’s legal situations still up in the air. If he got arrested too, everything would spiral even further out of control.
Shooting Arabella one last hateful glare, Calvin quickly switched tactics, his voice turning pleading. “No, wait, please! I just got my license… I’m still a novice driver. Maybe I panicked and hit the gas instead of the brake. My mistake, totally my fault. Can we… can we just forget about calling the cops?”
“Hmph.” Lucas wasn’t inclined to let him off so easily. People who tried intimidation and fraud didn’t deserve à free pass.
But Arabella was thinking of Edward waiting in the car and stopped Lucas with a touch on his arm. “Let it go.”
Edward and Alfred were expecting her, and she truly didn’t have the energy to waste on someone like Calvin,
Hearing Arabella’s decision, Lucas gave a curt nod. “Fine, no police. But you will apologize to her.”
Did this guy think a near–miss warranted just a shrugged shoulder? Not a chance.
“Apologize? To her?” Calvin was both shocked and indignant, his voice rising again.
He had to say he was sorry to that girl?!
“You nearly ran her over, and she’s the one choosing not to press charges. You don’t just apologize–you thank her for her decency,” Lucas stated coldly.
“I…” Calvin’s face flushed with humiliation. Apologize and thank her?
