“Dinner should be about ready. Let’s eat,” Jonathan spoke up, breaking the tension.

“Yes, let’s move to the dining room,” Florence urged everyone.

They all rose and made their way to the table.

Once the others had left the room, Ruby grumbled under her breath, “I never should have come. I just made a fool of myself”

“Enough complaining. Do you seriously want to be banned from coming here?” Naomi frowned.

Ruby fell silent for a moment, then finally gave in. “Alright, alright. They’re gone now anyway”

Naomi looked at her seriously. “You have to be more careful from now on. I won’t always be able to cover for you.

“Mm,” Ruby agreed reluctantly, knowing she had little choice but to endure it for now.

Naomi shot her a sharp look and whispered back, “Losing control again? Aren’t you worried they’ll hear you?”

“I’m just telling you,” Ruby whispered defensively.

“You still need to be cautious. Walls have ears,” Naomi warned.

She was starting to feel genuinely exhausted. Why did Ruby have to be so tactless?

She used to think Ruby was just a bit materialistic, which had actually been useful for bolstering her own image by contrast. But now she saw that when Ruby caused trouble, it was a serious liability.

Ruby glanced around nervously, then ducked her head and focused on her meal in sullen silence.

It was humiliating, but if she wanted to keep her access to Cloudrise Manor, she had to put up with it.

After dinner, Ruby left.

Alfred walked Arabella back upstairs to her room.

“If Ruby steps out of line again in the future, make sure you come to me,” Alfred told Arabella.
