Dylan's eyes, which he had just shut, snapped open immediately.
Pretend to faint?
Who in their right mind would try that now?
He was struggling hard not to actually black out for real.
Arabella gave a satisfied nod. "That's more like it. Patients should cooperate with their treatment."
"Mrs. Johnston, step aside, please." She turned her gaze to Dylan. "We're starting now. If it hurts, just grit your teeth and bear it."
"Mom... Mom..." Dylan was terrified, but completely helpless.
Just as the needle tip approached his eye, Dylan finally broke down completely. "Stop!"
"What is it?" Arabella asked, sounding puzzled.
"I-I think my headache... It's gone. All of a sudden," Dylan mumbled, defeat clear in his voice.
He was genuinely scared. That needle looked like it could do some real damage.
"You sure?" Arabella checked.
Dylan surrendered completely. "Yes. Positive."
Arabella shrugged lightly and sighed. "Well, I guess you don't need me then."
She glanced at the other specialists in the room. "Maybe you should run another checkup, see if he's fully recovered."
Suddenly, everyone seemed to catch on. They exchanged looks, momentarily at a loss.
"That won't be necessary," Orion cut in, his tone cool. "These test results are clear enough. And since Mr. Johnston isn't feeling any discomfort now, he must be fine."
It had never crossed his mind that the whole thing might be an act.
"Right, he's probably perfectly healthy."
"Orion, just document what happened today."
Others chimed in one after another.
Sarah panicked and quickly changed her story. "No, no—my son was treated by all of you."
If they called Dylan out for faking, things would get much worse.
"Oh, yeah," Dylan caught on. "I just got better now."
"But this young lady hasn't actually done anything yet," someone pointed out.
"What does she know about real treatment?" Sarah shot back. "The specialists we hired are the ones who cured him. Their treatment just hadn't fully taken effect yet, and she tried to take credit for it." She added sharply, "Not only that, I'm going to sue her for attempted malpractice and fraud."
"Mrs. Johnston, you can't make accusations like that without evidence," Orion said, annoyed.
"The needle in her hand is evidence! Jabbing someone dozens of times with that—she was obviously trying to harm him," Sarah insisted through clenched teeth.
