“Well, it won’t hurt to at least go and see Arabella You just stay home and wait for me quietly,” Carter said, not wanting to waste time arguing. Whether his hunch was right or not, meeting Arabella would clear things up.

“I still think it’s a waste of time. But fine, I’m not going anyway,” Freya replied, her expression tightening at the mere mention of Arabella.

“Suit yourself. But while I’m gone, start moving the last of our savings into separate accounts -just as a precaution,” Carter said seriously, holding her gaze.

“Alright.”

With that, Carter headed downstairs.

On the way, it occurred to him that Arabella might refuse to see him if he went alone. He knew she and Edward had always been close.

She’d only come yesterday because of Edward.

He turned around and went back to Edward’s room.

“Dad, what is it now?” Edward frowned as Carter entered again.

“Edward, did Arabella come by yesterday to bring you your medication?”

“Yes, why?” Edward was surprised Carter was bringing this up.

“It’s just… your mother and Harper were completely out of line yesterday. They embarrassed Arabella terribly.

“I’ve been thinking, and I feel I should take her out for a meal to show I care. Otherwise, she’s probably still upset. Can you reach out to her? I go with you to see her and apologize in person,” Carter said, his expression convincingly remorseful, his eyes full of manufactured guilt.

Hearing his father’s apparent regret, Edward felt there was some truth to it. Arabella had been publicly humiliated in his own home. The thought still bothered him deeply.

“If you’re sincere about it, I’ll call Arabella and see if she’s free,” Edward said.

“Please do,” Carter replied, his eyes hopeful. He was counting on Edward to get Arabella to

agree.

“Arabella, are you free now? I’d like to take you out for a meal,” Edward said over the phone,

Secretly, Edward also wished his family would show more consideration toward Arabella. If Carter was genuinely trying to make amends, this might be a chance to mend fences.

“We just saw each other yesterday. Why the sudden invitation?” Arabella asked, surprised.

“You were treated unfairly here. I barely slept last night thinking about it. I really need to see you and apologize properly. Otherwise, I’ll just keep feeling terrible,” Edward said with genuine feeling.

It was true–after Arabella left yesterday, he’d been racked with guilt and sadness. If he hadn’t asked her to come, she wouldn’t have been subjected to Freya and Harper’s hostility. He blamed himself.

“It’s alright. What happened yesterday wasn’t your fault. Please don’t be upset, or I’ll feel

worse.

“Okay, let’s go to that little place you always used to take me. I’ll come pick you up now,” Arabella said. She knew Edward well–if he’d lost sleep over this, he wouldn’t settle down until he saw her.

“Actually, just meet me at the restaurant. Don’t come here. It’s easier for me to go to you,” Edward suggested.

“Alright then. I’ll wait for you there.”

“Okay.”

After hanging up, Edward looked at Carter. “She agreed. We can head over now.”

A smile immediately touched Carter’s lips. “Good. Let’s go.”

It had been the right move to have Edward make the call.

In the car, Carter glanced at Edward. “I never know you used to take Arabella out for meals often.”

“You were always busy back then. It didn’t seem important enough to mention,” Edward replied.
