Chapter 92 An Unwelcome Guest
“If what you’re saying is true, then this is more complicated than we thought…”
As they spoke, the car pulled up outside the restaurant.
“We’re here. Let’s go in,” Edward said, opening the door and stepping out.

Arabella had already ordered Edward’s favorite dishes in the private dining room. She took out her phone and sent him a message. “I’m here. Where are you?”
“Just heading up now,” Edward replied.
Arabella stood to open the door, but the moment she did, she came face to face with someone she hadn’t expected–or wanted–to see.
“What are you doing here?” Arabella asked Carter in surprise.
Just then, Edward stepped forward from behind him. “I brought Dad along.”
Hearing Edward’s words, Arabella froze for a moment.
Edward looked at Carter. “Dad, go ahead in. I’ll talk with Arabella for a second.”
Carter offered a thin smile to Arabella’s cold expression. “Alright, you two talk.”
“Why did you bring him?” Arabella questioned Edward, her tone clearly unhappy.
“Don’t get upset. There’s a reason I brought him, Edward tried

“You were treated so unfairly yesterday–it’s been eating at me. Later, I spoke with Dad. He realized how out of line everyone was, and he wanted to see you to make things right. Honestly, compared to Mom, Dad does care about you.”
“Please. I don’t need his concern,” Arabella said flatly. That excuse might work on Edward, but not on her.
“But I can’t just let what happened slide. It was Mom and Dad who said those awful things. They owe you an apology, and I want you to feel better. Arabella, please don’t stay upset. Come in with me, or I’ll feel terrible too,” Edward said, his eyes full of genuine distress.
Though Arabella had no desire to see Carter, hearing Edward’s words made it clear he’d gone to some trouble to arrange this–for her sake.

“Fine. But he doesn’t stay long. You find a way to have him leave soon,” Arabella conceded, for Edward’s sake.
“Okay, I’ll handle it. But when you come in, try not to look so cold. Talk to him a little,” Edward coaxed.
“We’ll see.”
“Alright, let’s go in.”
Edward then led Arabella into the private room.
When Carter saw them enter, a smile spread across his face.
Arabella, however, ignored him completely, her expression cool as she took her seat.
Once they were settled, Edward spoke first, “Dad about yesterday… did you want to say something to Arabella?”
Carter understood the cue. He looked at Arabella with an earnest smile. “Arabella, what happened yesterday wasn’t what I wanted. Your mother and Harper were completely out of line. After you left, I spoke to them both. They know they shouldn’t

Hearing his words, the ice in Arabella’s expression thawed slightly, though her tone remained detached. “I’m not part of the Macdonald family anymore. Freya isn’t my mother. You don’t need to apologize for their behavior.”
“I understand if you can’t forgive us. I just came today to explain and to make sure you leave feeling hurt,” Carter said, his words carefully framed to show concern.

Seeing Carter offer an apology, Edward felt it demonstrated real sincerity–it was the first time he’d seen his father apologize to anyone.
But noting Arabella’s reserved demeanor, Edward added gently, “Arabella, Dad’s never apologized like this before. It means he’s genuinely sorry. Please don’t hold it against him.”
Arabella glanced at Edward. Not wanting to upset him, she replied, “I’m not that petty. I accept the apology.”
