Chapter 126 Police Visit
Nathan’s expression darkened instantly,
“The police? Why are they here?”
Victoria, confused, pulled Camille toward the door. Two police vehicles were parked outside, and several officers stepped out holding official documents,
“Mr. Hawthorne,” one officer said, “regarding the fire at the West Garment Factory under Hawthorne Group. we have received a report alleging intentional arson. Please come with us to assist in the investigation.”
Victoria’s face drained of color. “Intentional arson? Didn’t you say it was faulty wiring?”
“Miss, whether it was faulty wiring or deliberate arson will be determined by the investigation. For now, Mr. Hawthorne needs to come with us.”
Their tone left no room for negotiation.
Victor’s face turned ashen. He glanced at Nathan before forcing a polite smile. “Of course. Cooperation with law enforcement is our responsibility.”
Before getting into the car, he lowered his voice to Nathan. “Your grandfather is old. Don’t let him hear about this.”
“Yes,” Nathan replied.
As Victor was taken away, Victoria nearly lost her composure. “Nathan, why would the police take your father? What did you two do? They said someone reported him. Who reported him?”
“Mom, can you calm down?” Nathan snapped, already overwhelmed.
“How can I calm down? Your father just got taken away!”
Camille suddenly spoke up. “Could it be… never mind. Maybe I’m overthinking.”
Victoria grabbed her arm. “Camille, if you know something, tell me.”
Camille hesitated, then said softly, “When the factory caught fire, Elena was there. She even went inside. What if she reported it?”
She had only thrown the line out as a test, but when she saw Nathan’s expression darken almost inst she knew her suspicion had been right.
Nathan’s face shifted almost imperceptibly.
Victoria trembled with anger. “Who else could it be? Elena must be trying to get revenge. She’s furious Nathan left her, so she framed your father. Where is she? I won’t let this go!”
fib
“Mom, this isn’t about Elena right now,” Nathan said sharply. “We need to get Dad out before Grandpa finds
out”
Nathan was worried Charles would find out.

Daniel and Evan had been watching their every move. Ever since Charles was discharged, the father and son had moved into Hawthorne Manor under the pretense of taking care of him. There was no telling what they might be whispering in his car behind closed doors.
He hurried off to contact a lawyer.
Victoria grew more frantic the longer she thought about it.
Camille added quietly, “Maybe it’s not Elena. I heard at the office she’s still in the hospital recovering. She probably doesn’t even have the energy for this.”
“Hospital? Which hospital?” Victoria demanded.
Elena had no idea Victor had been taken in. She finished editing her article and sent it to Lydia, then checked the mark on her neck. The swelling had darkened into a deep red bruise. She adjusted her collar to cover it.
She had just started to get out of bed when the door slammed open.
Victoria and Camille stormed in, the aides unable to stop them.
“Elena, how could you be so vicious?”
Victoria marched straight toward her, raising her hand, but one of the aides stepped in immediately.
