Marriage Quit, Real Heiress Strikes Back
Chapter 130 Double Game
“Mrs. Hawthorne-”
He stood quickly, moving to help her.

“Just Elena,” she said with a polite smile that did not reach her eyes. “Nathan and I are not husband and wife.
She avoided his hand and sat down, ordering herself a coffee.
Once seated, Marcus voiced the question that had been bothering him. “Miss Sterling, I don’t quite understand. If Victor goes to prison, that doesn’t seem to benefit you. Is there some conflict between you and him?”
Even if she had been deceived into a fake marriage, should her resentment not be directed at Nathan?
Elena’s smile deepened slightly. “How would there be no benefit? If he goes to prison, I’ll be very happy.”
The mysterious person who had tried to harm her multiple times was connected to Victor. On top of that, Victor had made her life difficult for five years.
She took out her checkbook. “You can think it over. I know Hawthorne Group has retained you. I’m retaining you as well. If they offer five hundred thousand, I’ll offer one million. I want Victor in prison.”
She paused, then continued, “I also suspect that during his time as acting CEO of Hawthorne Group, Victor misused company funds. There’s a strong chance several of the projects he handled were problematic. For each confirmed violation you uncover, I’ll add another five million. There’s no ceiling.”
Marcus was stunned.
Elena was supposed to be the overlooked daughter of the Hart family. How could she afford this? Five million per confirmed charge, with no upper limit. He had handled many questionable matters for Victor over the years and knew far more than he had ever admitted.
“Miss Sterling,” he began cautiously, clearly tempted yet doubtful.
Before he could finish, his phone vibrated. He glanced down at the incoming message and nearly dropped the device.
“I just transferred ten million as a retainer,” Elena said calmly, leaning forward slightly. “You’ve been cleaning up Hawthorne Group’s messes for years. You must be tired.”
Marcus slapped his palm against the table in excitement and extended his hand. “I’ll make sure you’re satisfied.”
After he left, Elena did not leave immediately. Nearly ten minutes later, a young man entered the café.
Evan spotted her at once. She wore a white dress, her cane resting beside her chair, sipping coffee with composed elegance.
He did not understand why she had asked to meet him.
He approached, and she set her cup down.

Evan sat across from her. “Elena, why did you want to see me?”

She studied the man in the gold rimmed glasses. In the five years she had been with Nathan, she had rarely encountered him. She had no fondness for Daniel or Evan, but sometimes the enemy of one’s enemy became useful. She would gladly help Daniel and Evan secure the shares Nathan had always wanted.
“There was a fire at Hawthorne Group’s West Garment Factory two days ago,” she said, sliding photos across
the table. “I took these at the scene.
Evan took the photos, confusion turning into understanding after a single glance. He leaned back, examining her more carefully.
“I don’t understand,” he said. “You were with Nathan for five years. He may have wronged you, but do you really need to go this far?”
In his memory, Elena had always been obedient to Nathan. Now she was prepared to use him against his own brother.
“You can accept this or ignore it,” she said coolly. “Nathan has been eyeing those shares for years. Walter favors Victor and Nathan far more than he favors you and Daniel. Simply trying to gain attention from him will not win Hawthorne Group.”
There was faint mockery in her tone.
Evan looked at her again. “People say women can be ruthless when crossed. I suppose that isn’t entirely
untrue.”
than likely never imagined she would retaliate like this.
Elena did not stay. She had done what she came to do. Whether Evan used it was his decision.
