Charles had only just recovered over the past couple of days, so if he saw her again and got worked up. wouldn’t that send him straight back to the hospital?
The housekeeper’s tone carried obvious disapproval, and Evan Hawthorne caught it immediately. The smile on his face faded as he strode into the living room.
Out in the garden, Camille was pacing and venting her frustration, mentally tearing Charles apart.
The old man was unbelievably stubborn. She had been showing up every few days, bringing gifts, checking in, playing the attentive future granddaughter–in–law, and not only did he refuse to appreciate it, he had actually ordered someone to show her the door.
If she were not trying to give Nathan peace of mind, she would never have bothered coming here and putting on this act.
She glanced at the time. She had been standing there for half an hour, and Charles still had not agreed to see her, so she finally decided to leave.
As she turned around, she walked straight into someone’s chest.
“Does Nathan know you’re working this hard to win Grandpa over?”
Camille looked up and saw Evan’s slightly greasy smile, and a flicker of disgust passed through her eyes before she smoothed it away.
“What’s it to you?”
Her tone was sharp.
Evan did not look offended in the slightest. Instead, something almost feverish lit
up
in his gaze.
“You’re the Hart family’s daughter. Do you really need to go this far for Nathan?”
Camille stopped mid–step.
“Evan, let me make this clear. Whatever I do for Nathan is my business. It has nothing to do with you.”
She had disliked him since they were children. He always lingered around her like something she could not shake off.
But she had only ever looked at Nathan.
Evan had never even been a consideration.
He did not back down.
Instead, he pulled out the photo Elena had given him. “You should stop wasting your time. Nathan isn’t getting Grandpa’s shares. If I hand this over, Nathan and Victor will be left with nothing. Are you ready to go down with them?”
“What is that?”

Chapter 131 Leverage
Camille’s attention sharpened.
Evan gave her a knowing smile. “You want to see?”
“If you’re going to show me, then show me. If not, forget it.”
She turned as if to leave.
Evan quickly grabbed her wrist, his voice softening. “Alright, I’ll show you. Don’t be mad.”
Her disdain for him deepened, but she still reached out and took the photo from his hand.
When she saw what it was, her expression shifted. It’s from the night of the factory fire.
“Where did you get this?”
“Elena gave it to me.”
Evan told her exactly how the photo had ended up in his hands.
“Looks like I underestimated Victor. Arson? If Grandpa finds out, he won’t just be scolded. He’ll be out.”
“You said Elena gave it to you?”
When Evan nodded, Camille’s expression changed again, no longer as tense as before.
She glanced around to make sure no one was nearby, then lightly placed her hand on Evan’s wrist.
“Give it to me.”
Evan frowned. “You’re trying to protect Nathan?”
Camille’s voice softened, almost coaxing. “Of course I am. I’m carrying his child. Evan, we grew up together. didn’t we? You wouldn’t want my baby growing up without a father, would you? Do you really want to see me struggle?”
She looked at him with carefully crafted vulnerability.
Evan’s resistance melted almost instantly.
He hesitated, weighing whethe
to hand over the photo, and in the end, his feelings got the better of him.
“I’ll help you one last time.”
“Thank you.”
Camille took the photo and walked away in her heels without looking back.
Evan stood there staring at the spot on his wrist where she had touched him, his thumb lingering over it as if trying to preserve the contact.
Back in her car, Camille hesitated. Should I tell Nathan?
