Sham Marriage Quit, Real Heiress Strikes Back
Chapter 144 New Badge

Perhaps she might be able to find something at Grant’s place, maybe a piece of calligraphy or a painting that would suit Walter’s taste. With that thought in mind, Elena decided she would visit Grant another day and ask him about it.
On Monday morning, Elena returned to Velmora Media.
Hannah and Sophia were thrilled to see her.
“How’s your leg? You’re back already?” Hannah asked, glancing at her carefully.
“I’m fine,” Elena said, gesturing to her long pants. “I just need to change the dressing every three days. Don’t worry.”
“That’s good.”
Hannah relaxed and immediately leaned closer, eager to share gossip.
“You probably haven’t heard yet. I was told the new executive president is stepping in as editor–in–chief personally. And get this, there are rumors that Lydia was fired by the executive president, someone namer Lucy. No one’s seen her yet, but if she had the nerve to remove Lydia, she must be impressive.”
Hannah was already a fan of this unseen leader.
“Really?” Elena asked, suppressing a smile.
“Absolutely. Trust your instincts. We need to perform well. Maybe she’ll notice and promote us.”
Hannah had always dreamed of a promotion, though luck had rarely favored her. At Swiftline she had performed well, but Elena had outshone her, and then Camille arrived.
Sophia caught Elena’s expression and laughed. “Hannah, believe in yourself. One day you’ll climb the ladder. Team lead, editor–in–chief, big money, why not?”
“Maybe,” Hannah sighed. “Although if anyone’s becoming management, it should be Elena. I couldn’t push myself the way she does. I wouldn’t land myself in a hospital bed over a story.”
“Already daydreaming?” Camille’s voice cut in smoothly.
She walked over, a faint smirk on her face.
Hannah flushed. “What’s wrong with wanting to move up? Who doesn’t?”
Camille gave her a dismissive look. “Ambition is fine. Ability is another matter. There are plenty of people in this office. What makes you think it would be you?”
“If not me, then you?” Hannah shot back. “Elena’s right here.”
Camille’s tone turned syrupy. “What qualifies her? She’s only been here a little longer than I have. Plenty of people have seniority over both of us. If we’re talking credentials, she’s not that far ahead, right, Tessa?”

Chapter 144 New Badge
Camille had already befriended Tessa from the neighboring desk.

Tessa knew Camille was nudging her into the conversation, but she did not entirely disagree. Elena had a strong reputation before joining Velmora Media, and her recent reports had boosted attention significantly, yet management roles typically required tenure.
Tessa gave a neutral nod. “There’s no precedent for a newcomer becoming editor–in–chief here. HR already said Lucy will be leading us directly. There’s no point speculating.”
Camille shot Elena a smug look.
She believed she had integrated well in just a few days and that when Lucy wanted insight into the department, she would turn to long–term staff. Elena’s interpersonal skills, in Camille’s mind, were weak, and that would cost her.
Elena understood exactly what Camille was thinking.
Camille’s competitiveness was relentless. Even if she could not win, she was satisfied as long as Elena did not either.
Unfortunately for her, she was celebrating too soon.
