Unwanted Fake Wife The Top Billionaire novel Chapter 193

Chapter 193 Subtle Signals

Finished

By the time they got to the restaurant and settled into their seats, Elena found herself sitting across from Alexander, and it didn’t take long for her to notice that the person accompanying him today was Ryan, not Fiona, which made her casually look up and ask, Is Fiona off today?

Alexander’s hand paused ever so slightly as he flipped through the menu, and although the movement was brief, his eyes lifted just enough to glance at Clement, who was standing nearby and pouring water for Elena with a level of attentiveness that felt just a bit too cager, yet Alexander himself didn’t say a word.

Ryan cleared his throat, clearly picking up on the silence, then gave a slightly awkward smile as he explained, We’ve got a new business line launching over in Eldoria, so Mr. Kingsley assigned Fiona to handle it.

That made sense.

Elena nodded, though a flicker of surprise still crossed her face, and almost without thinking, she glanced back at Alexander.

Did he send Fiona away because of what I said last night?

That thought lingered just long enough to connect with something else, and suddenly Fiona’s strange look from before made a lot more sense.

Still, Elena wasn’t the type to pretend generosity she didn’t feel, and while Fiona’s constant presence had been genuinely irritating, she had no intention of playing the gracious act and asking Alexander to bring her back.

After Alexander finished ordering, Elena picked up her menu, scanning it for a moment since she wasn’t familiar with the restaurant, and after going back and forth between a few options, she finally decided on a steak.

She had just given her order to the server when Alexander spoke up.

Alexander said, That one comes with onions.

It was such a simple remark, delivered casually, yet it immediately made Elena change her mind.

Oh, sorry, I’ll switch that,” Elena said, adjusting her order without hesitation.

She didn’t like onions at all, and if he hadn’t pointed it out, she would have ended up staring at a dish she couldn’t eat.

After choosing something else, she picked up her glass and took a sip of water, only to realize that Clement was looking at her in a way that felt slightly off.

For a brief second, Elena didn’t react.

Then it clicked.

That exchange just now, from an outsider’s perspective, was a little too familiar.

Why would a boss remember something that specific about her eating habits?

Elena placed her glass down calmly and turned to Alexander, her tone light but deliberate.

Finished

Elena said, Thanks for the headsup, Mr. Kingsley. I mentioned at that dinner before that I don’t eat onions, I didn’t expect you to actually remember.

Ryan fell completely silent.

Alexander let out a low chuckle, though there was something unreadable beneath it.

Alexander said, I tend to remember things.

There was a faint edge to it, subtle but unmistakable.

Elena caught it immediately.

Clement, however, seemed relieved by the explanation and smiled as he added, Mr. Kingsley’s always had a great memory.

A short while later, the server returned with their food.

Alexander and Elena had ended up ordering the same entrée, while Clement had chosen something different, and as soon as his plate was set down, Clement picked up his knife and fork, carefully cutting his steak into neat pieces before using the serving fork to place a portion onto Elena’s plate.

Clement said, This place does this really well, you should give it a try.

Elena froze for a fraction of a second.

Up until now, she had only vaguely sensed that Clement might be interested in her, but this kind of gesture made it impossible to ignore.

And what made it worse was the fact that Alexander was sitting right across from them, holding his knife and fork with that same composed posture, a faint smile still on his lips.

On the surface, he looked perfectly calm.

He is absolutely not okay with this.

No, really, you don’t have to,Elena said, trying to stop Clement as he moved to add more to her plate.

Clement, however, was the straightforward type, and after realizing that Elena and Ryan were nothing more than acquaintances, along with knowing how she had spent five years sincerely devoted to Nathan only to end up hurt, he had come to see her as someone genuinely worth caring about.

So instead of pulling back, he leaned in even more.

Clement said, It’s fine, seriously. Oh, and their red velvet cake is great too, last time we were here with Mr. Kingsley, Fiona mentioned it.

The shift in atmosphere was immediate.
