Chapter 192 The Mood Shift
The elevator reached the executive floor.
Elena stepped out, and Ryan was already waiting in the hallway.
When he saw Clement standing beside her, he paused for a brief second, clearly caught off guard.
Alexander had said Elena would come alone.

Elena didn’t notice. “Alexander asked me to come by and go over yesterday’s report. Is he in his office?”
Ryan nodded. “Yeah, he’s in.”
“Alright, I’ll go in,” Elena said, turning toward the office.
Clement naturally followed.
Ryan reacted immediately, stepping forward and gently blocking his path, a polite smile on his face. “Clement, about that… Elena can handle this part on her own. I actually have a few things I need to go over with you as well. Do you have a minute?”
Ryan worked closely with Alexander, so brushing him off wasn’t really an option.
Clement smiled easily. “Of course. Your office?”
“Yeah, that work
Ryan let out a quiet breath of relief and gestured for him to follow.
Elena ended up heading into the office alone.
She hadn’t originally planned to bring Clement along, but he had offered, saying she might not be familiar with Alexander’s working style yet and that he could help smooth things over.
And truthfully, she hadn’t been eager to face Alexander alone either.
So she had agreed.
Inside the office, Alexander was still on a video call.
When Elena walked in, he gestured toward the couch without breaking the conversation.
Elena nodded slightly and sat down. He continued the call.
Elena set her things aside and looked over at him.
She had to admit, when he was working, there was something undeniably compelling about him. The gold–rimmed glasses, the composed posture, the quiet authority in the way he listened more than he spoke, only occasionally responding with calm precision.
Every so often, his gaze would lift and land briefly on her.

The person on the other end of the call seemed to notice.
A voice came through the speaker, light and amused. “Alexander, you’ve got company?”
Alexander’s lips curved slightly. “Yeah.”
There was a brief pause. “My wife.”
The words were simple. But something about the way he said them made Elena’s heartbeat skip.
Why does that sound… different when he says it?
His marriage wasn’t a secret.
But the ease in his tone, the quiet hint of warmth, didn’t match the rumors people whispered about them.
“Oh?” the person said with interest. “When are you going to bring her around? We’d love to meet her.”
Alexander’s gaze lifted again, meeting Elena’s eyes.
“She’s busy,” he said, a faint smile in his voice. “But we’ll make it happen.”
“Well, we’ll hold you to that. We won’t keep you any longer. Talk soon.”
“Alright.”
The call ended.
Elena stood up, suddenly feeling a little self–conscious, and walked over to his desk, handing him the proposal. “This is the plan for next quarter. Take a look.”
Alexander took the document and began flipping through it.
He read carefully. Elena’s work was solid, easily on par with the other senior executives.
As he reviewed it, he asked a few questions.
His tone was casual, but every question cut straight to the key issues in Velmora Media’s future direction.
And they were exactly the areas Elena had been struggling with.
She answered them one by one.
Only then did she realize something.
So he really called me here for work… nothing else.
She had thought he might bring up what happened the night before, but she had been so exhausted she barely remembered how that conversation even ended.
Nearly half an hour passed.

He glanced at his watch. “It’s about lunchtime. Let’s grab something to eat.”
Elena remembered Clement had come with her, so she didn’t refuse. “Sure.”
They walked out together.
