Chapter 199 The Name Ellie

Sophia even raised her hand like she was taking an oath, clearly worried Elena might be upset because of what Zoe said yesterday.
Alexander had finally gotten married, and somehow people were still trying to stir drama.
It was exhausting.
Elena couldn’t help but laugh. “I’m really fine.”
She meant it. She believed Alexander wouldn’t lie to her.
But still…
“Sophia, can I ask you something?”
Elena closed her laptop and looked at her. “Does your brother know anyone named Ellie?”
She remembered it clearly. At the wedding, he had said that name. Ellie. That nickname… almost no one knew it.
Sophia frowned slightly. “Ellie?”
She thought for a moment.
“Fiona’s nickname sounds kind of similar, but my brother’s never called her that. Other than her…” She shook her head. “I don’t think so.”
She hesitated, then added, “But he wasn’t living with the family for a big chunk of his childhood. If he met someone back then, I wouldn’t know.”
Elena straightened slightly. “He didn’t grow up with you guys?”
Sophia shook her head. “No. He only came back when he was around ten.”
Elena blinked. That was new.
“I always thought he grew up at Kingsley Manor.”
Sophia shrugged. “Nope. He was sent somewhere quieter because his health wasn’t great as a kid. Kind of off the grid, I guess. He stayed there for years until he got better.”
She paused. “I’ve asked him about that time, but he never really talks about it.”
Elena’s fingers curled slightly on the desk. So that’s when…?
“Do you know where he stayed?”
Sophia tapped her chin, thinking hard. “I think it was…”
Her sentence got cut off by Elena’s phone ringing. Elena glanced at the screen. “I need to take this.”

“Go ahead,” Sophia said. “I’ll get back to work.”
She slipped out of the office. “Elena speaking,” Elena said, picking up.
Monica’s voice came through, warm and relaxed. “I watched your interview. You did great. Are you free tonight? Let’s grab dinner.”
She was browsing inside a high–end jewelry boutique as she spoke.
“Yeah, I’m free,” Elena said.
“Perfect. I’ll send you the location.”
They hung up.
Monica selected a pearl necklace, something elegant but understated, and handed her card over. “Could you gift–wrap this?”
As she waited, she smiled faintly, already picturing Elena’s reaction. Elena was her brother’s daughter.
Of course she wanted to take care of her.
She turned to leave, only to stop when someone stepped into her path.
“I heard you were back. Thought it was just gossip.” Zoe’s voice was cool, edged. “Guess not.”
Monica’s expression didn’t change. “Do you need something?”
Zoe crossed her arms. “You’ve been back this long, had time to do interviews, but not even one visit home? Or did a few years abroad make you forget you’re a Sterling?”
Monica didn’t react. Not outwardly.
“I’ve been busy,” she said evenly. “And I have plans. Excuse me.”
She walked past Zoe without another glance.
Zoe called after her, voice sharp with anger, but Monica didn’t slow down.
She got into her car and shut the door. Leaning back against the seat, she closed her eyes briefly, the fatigue finally showing.
Her assistant turned slightly. “Do you want me to reschedule dinner with Ms. Sterling?”
“No,” Monica said.
Her voice was calm again. “No reason to let irrelevant people ruin your evening.”
At six sharp, Elena arrived at the restaurant. Monica was already there.
“Traffic was a mess,” Elena said as she walked over. “Did I keep you waiting?”

Monica smiled and handed her the menu. “Not at all. I just got here. Take a look, their ribeye is excellent.”
