Chapter 221 One Condition
Her expression turned serious.
“The baby has to be safe. That’s non–negotiable.”
Her husband had been gone for years.

Alexander was her only anchor. Now that Elena was finally pregnant, she just wanted that sense of family to continue.
Even though Evelyn wasn’t happy about Elena going back to work, she eventually gave in.
Elena finally felt relieved.
Monday morning, after breakfast, she was about to leave when she saw Alexander’s car waiting outside.
“I’ll drive you.”
He was already in the driver’s seat.
Before their relationship went public, they always drove separately.
“You don’t have to. I can drive myself.”
Alexander didn’t argue. He just tilted his head slightly, signaling her to look behind her.
She turned and saw Evelyn walking over. “Let Alexander take you. Morning traffic is a mess. It’s not safe for you to be driving right now.”
Elena went quiet. The shift in Evelyn’s attitude still felt surreal.
But at the end of the day, it was because of the baby.
She couldn’t really refuse now, so she got into the passenger seat and let Alexander drive.
When they arrived at Velmora Media, he didn’t say much. She got out, and he drove off.
Back in her office, Elena spent the morning working. Around noon, just as she was about to order lunch, Sophia walked in with a grin, holding a pink insulated lunch box.
“Okay, Elena, guess what this is?”
She gave it a little shake.

Elena laughed. “Let me guess, a winning lottery ticket?”
Sophia shook her finger. “Nope. It’s a love–packed lunch. Alexander had it sent over.”
She opened the box.
Inside was grilled honey–glazed salmon, sautéed okra, a soft–boiled egg, plus fresh fruit and a bottle of milk.
All her favorites.
Elena let out a quiet breath of relief.
Thank God. No more heavy stews.
“Thanks.”

Sophia beamed, her eyes drifting straight to Elena’s stomach. “If you need anything, just tell me. Seriously. Your number one job right now is taking care of yourself. No overdoing it, okay?”
Elena’s
pregnancy wasn’t a secret in the Kingsley family anymore.
At this point, she was basically the center of everything. And Sophia had fully embraced her role as a self–appointed bodyguard.
The second anything seemed off, she was ready to step in.
After that, she left without interrupting lunch.
Elena ate slowly. The food was good, and she was genuinely hungry. She finished most of it.
She had just cleaned up when her phone rang.
Seeing the caller ID, her eyes lit up slightly as she answered.
That afternoon, after finishing his work, Alexander checked the time. 4:30 p.m.
He grabbed his jacket and keys and headed out.
Ryan walked in just then and paused. “Heading out?”
At this hour, Alexander was usually still buried in work.
“Yeah. Picking up Elena.”
Ryan watched him leave, slightly stunned. A few assistants gathered around. “Did he just… leave early?”

Ryan nodded. “Get used to it. I don’t think he’ll be staying late anytime soon.”
Work wasn’t exactly the priority anymore.
“By the way,” one of them added, “Fiona requested a transfer back. She said there are issues with the company’s account.”
Pinnacle Group had ongoing business with the Scott family, and Fiona had always handled it.
Most likely, Zoe had pulled some strings to bring her back.
“Got it. I’ll tell Alexander,” Ryan said.
After leaving Pinnacle Group, Alexander drove straight to Velmora Media.
He parked the car and was about to step out when Elena walked out of the building.
