Chapter 263 Uninvited
After finishing the contents of the USB drive. Elena sat there for a long moment.

The weight of it made her uneasy, and she knew immediately she couldn’t leave something that important lying around. She got up, checked several places in the room, testing what felt safest, until she finally chose a spot that wouldn’t draw attention and carefully hid the USB drive out of sight.
Only after that did she head into the bathroom.
She had just finished changing into a robe when a knock sounded at the door.
She said cautiously. “Who is it?”
A man’s voice came from the other side, smooth and practiced.
“Room service, Miss.”
Her brows drew together instantly.
“I didn’t order anything,” Elena replied, her tone firm.
Instead of opening the door, she moved quietly toward it, careful with every step, and leaned in to look through the peephole.
Before she could make out anything clearly, a sharp electronic beep cut through the silence.
The lock disengaged. Her heart lurched.
Someone was opening the door from the outside.
She reacted on instinct, rushing forward to push against it, but she was just a fraction too late. The door was forced open with a heavy shove, and she stumbled back, barely avoiding being hit.
Two men
in black suits stepped inside without hesitation.
The moment she saw their faces, recognition hit.
They were Landon’s bodyguards.
Her hands tightened at her sides as a familiar figure followed them in.
Landon walked in casually, dressed in a crisp white shirt, sunglasses still on, carrying himself like he had every right to be there.
Before she could react, one of the men pushed her back onto the bed, while another dragged a chair into place.
Landon sat down as if settling in for a conversation, crossing one leg over the other before removing his sunglasses.
“Miss Sterling, Landon said, his tone almost conversational, “we really do keep running into each other. It’s just a shame the timing is always so unfortunate, isn’t it?”

Elena pulled the blanket over herself, her expression turning cold.
“What do you want. Landon?” she asked.
He studied her for a moment, then leaned back slightly, looking entirely at ease.
“Nothing complicated.” he replied. “I heard you’re a journalist, and that you’ve been spending quite a bit of time with Nicole lately.”
Elena met his gaze steadily.
“Who I spend time with isn’t your concern,” she said flatly.
Landon let out a quiet laugh, as if amused by her response.
“If you’re interested in doing a feature, I’d be more than willing to cooperate with Velmora Media,” he said. “After all, your husband Alexander and my family have a good relationship.”
He paused, then sighed lightly, his expression shifting into something almost regretful.
“As for Nicole, though, you might want to be careful,” he continued. “She’s not as innocent as she seems. I don’t know what she told you, but I can assure you I didn’t do anything wrong. Relationships are mutual. right? If she didn’t get what she wanted and decided to turn around and accuse me, that’s not something I’m just going to accept.”
He looked at her meaningfully. “You understand that, don’t you?”
His tone was measured, even
convincing.
If Elena hadn’t already seen what was on that USB drive, she might have hesitated.
“I’ll decide what’s true for myself,” Elena said calmly. “Now leave.”
Something flickered across Landon’s face, but it disappeared just as quickly. Instead, he smiled again, though this time there was a sharper edge to it.
“I heard you stopped by a gym earlier today,” he said.
Elena’s lashes trembled almost imperceptibly.
How does he know that? Is
following me,
or did Fiona tell him?
Landon leaned forward
watching her reaction with interest.
“Did you happen to pick
Something up while you were there?” he asked.
He tilted his head, as if the answer didn’t matter, even though it clearly did.
“Let’s make this easy,” he continued. “Hand it over, and I won’t interfere with anything else you do. You can handle Nicole however you

“I didn’t take anything.” she said.

If she handed it over, everything Nicole had said would be dismissed as lies, and the truth would never
come out.
Landon smiled faintly, but his eyes had already turned cold.
“Really?” he said. “You’re pregnant, right? I’ve heard that can affect memory. Why don’t you think a little harder?”
“I didn’t take anything.” Elena repeated, her voice steady.
The moment the words left her lips, Landon’s hand shot out and grabbed her chin. The force was brutal
Pain flared instantly, sharp enough to make her gasp.
The easygoing facade vanished completely, replaced by something dark and dangerous as his grip tightened.
“Good.” he said quietly.
Then he released her abruptly and turned to his men.
“Search.”
The two bodyguards began tearing through the room, opening drawers, checking her suitcase, going through every corner they could think of, but no matter how thoroughly they searched, they found nothing.
