Chapter 264 The Edge
They hesitated, clearly uneasy, and one of them finally spoke, his voice cautious.
“Sir… she’s Alexander’s wife.”
Even they understood what kind of line this crossed.
Before he could finish, Landon struck him hard across the face, the sharp sound echoing through the room.
“Did you not hear me?” Landon snapped, his eyes cold and vicious. “Alexander doesn’t mean anything, and let’s be honest, he doesn’t care about her. He’s probably too busy with that little assistant of his right now to bother.”
A cold, ironic smile flickered across Elena’s lips.
So even Landon knew.
“What kind of relationship I have with Alexander doesn’t matter,” she said evenly. “What matters is that I’m carrying a Kingsley family child. You should think very carefully before you do anything.”
For a brief moment, Landon paused. It looked like he might reconsider.
But then something hardened in his expression.
He turned and slapped the bodyguard again. “Do it,” he said.
Fear flickered across the men

Just as they were about to touch her, Elena moved.
She pulled out the pepper spray she had hidden beneath the blanket and pressed down hard, sending a sharp burst into the air.
The effect was immediate.
Landon and both bodyguards cried out, stumbling back as the burning sensation hit.
Elena didn’t hesitate. She ran
Her fingers brushed the door handle, hope just within reach, when a sudden, searing pain tore through her scalp.
Her body jerked backward. Landon had grabbed her hair and yanked hard, dragging her back into the
room.
Elena clung to the doorframe with both hands, refusing to let go, even as the pain intensified and strands of her hair were ripped free.
He’s insane. He’s completely lost it.
Just as her grip began to weaken, a figure rushed forward.

Declan.
He moved fast, kicking one of the men aside and forcing space between them, then grabbed Elena and pulled her out into the hallway.
The commotion had already drawn attention. Doors opened one after another as guests stepped out to see what was happening.
Landon stepped toward the doorway as if to follow, but when he saw the crowd gathering, he stopped.
Instead, he stood there, watching Elena with a cold, twisted smile..
Elena’s heart was pounding so hard it felt like it might break through her chest. But she didn’t leave.
Forcing herself to steady her breathing, she turned to Declan.
“Come back in with me,” she said. “I need to grab my things.”
Declan nodded immediately. “Of course.”
With him beside her, she went back inside.
This time, Landon didn’t make a move. He could tell Declan wasn’t someone easy to deal with, and with so many people already watching, pushing things further would only backfire.
Elena packed quickly, her movements efficient despite the lingering tremor in her hands.
Then, with Declan escorting her, she left the hotel.
The moment she got into the car, the tension finally broke. She leaned back against the seat, her body suddenly heavy with exhaustion.
“I’m taking you to the hospital,” Declan said as he started the engine
Elena didn’t argue.
Her scalp throbbed with every movement, the pain sharp where her hair had been torn out, the skin raw and sensitive.
But Landon hadn’t followed. Which meant he was afraid of exposure. Elena tightened her grip on the USB drive.
At the hospital, the doctor examined her and confirmed it was a mild scalp injury. Because she was pregnant, they avoided any medication and simply disinfected the area.
Afterward, Elena sat quietly, her thoughts tangled.
The hotel wasn’t safe anymore. Going somewhere else felt uncertain.
And the idea of going back to the house, of possibly running into Alexander, only made everything more complicated
Declan broke the silence.
