Alexander looked at her, his expression unreadable, but the coldness in his eyes was unmistakable. ‘So you’re saying Declan is lying for Elena just to frame you?”
Each word was measured, controlled, and far more cutting because of it.
“I don’t know why they would do that,” Fiona said, tears finally slipping down her face as she tried to regain control. “But I would never do something like this. My father raised me better than that. You know that.”
Alexander let out a quiet, almost mocking breath.
“Yeah,” Alexander said. “He’d be disappointed to see you like this.”
The last bit of hope Fiona was holding onto shattered completely.
He didn’t believe her. Not even a little.
“Starting today.” Alexander said, his voice calm and final, “you’re no longer working at Pinnacle Group.”
For a moment, the words didn’t register.
Fiona stared at him, her head tilting slightly as if she had misheard. “What did you just say?”
“Finish your handover today,” Alexander repeated, his tone unchanged.
That was when she broke.
“You’re firing me?” Fiona said, her voice rising despite herself. “I already explained everything. Elena has never liked me. She could have worked with Declan just to get rid of me. And you promised my father you would take care of me.”
“You crossed a line.” Alexander said.
There was no anger in his voice, no hesitation, no sympathy.
Just a decision.
Fiona took a step forward, desperation creeping in. “So you’re choosing her over me?”
Alexander didn’t even pause.
The answer was
absolute.
There was nothing left to argue.
By the time Alexander walked away, Fiona was still standing there, her tears falling silently, her composure completely gone.

Chapter 268 No Second Cha
“She really thought she had a shot.”
“Acting like she owned the place all this time.”
“If you didn’t know better, you’d think she was Mrs. Kingsley“.
“Well, reality hit her hard.”
Each word landed like a slap. Fiona bit down on her lip, her gaze drifting toward Alexander’s office door.
It never opened.
He chose her. Not me. Not even for a second.
Elena, meanwhile, remained completely unaware of everything that had just happened.
She sat at her desk at Velmora Media, focused on organizing the files from the USB drive Nicole had given her, cross–referencing them with notes from yesterday’s interview. The work demanded her full attention, and for a while, nothing else existed.
A notification popped up on her screen.
She paused, clicked it open, and saw a message from Hannah.
“Something big just happened,” Hannah said.
Elena typed back, “What happened?”
The reply came almost instantly.
“Fiona got fired. It just happened.”
Elena’s fingers hovered over the keyboard for a moment.
Fiona… fired?
Given Fiona’s background, that kind of decision could only have come from one person.
Alexander.
Is this supposed to fix anything? O
The thought passed quickly.
She didn’t let it stay.
“Got it,” Elena replied.

Across the office, Hannah stared at her screen, then looked up, confused.
