Chapter 269 Unwanted Watchers
“You should’ve fired Fiona a long time ago, seriously”
Sophia had never been fond of Fiona, but it had always been nothing more than a quiet dislike. She never imagined Fiona would go as far as stirring up trouble behind the scenes, and that alone pushed her impression of her even lower.
Alexander replied not long after.
He texted, “Can you find out where she stayed last night?”
He had no intention of using his own people to dig into Fiona’s private life unless he absolutely had to. Still, judging by Elena’s attitude, she clearly wanted nothing to do with Fiona, and if things reached that point, he would have no choice but to step in using other means.
By the time Elena finally wrapped up work, it was already past six. Instead of leaving early, she made a point of walking out of the Velmora Media building with her coworkers. The moment they stepped outside, her eyes flicked across the street, and just as she expected, two black sedans were parked in the shadows.
One man leaned casually against the car door, a cigarette between his fingers, watching their direction without bothering to hide it.
She didn’t need to think twice.
They were Landon’s people.
They were waiting for her to be alone, planning to pull the same move again.
Elena met the man’s gaze for a brief second, then looked away as if nothing had happened. She chatted with her coworkers and said her goodbyes near the parking lot, keeping everything completely natural.
As she reached for her ca
way.
she noticed movement from across the street. The men had started heading her
She stilled for half a second, already reconsidering.
Just then, a familiar car pulled up beside her.
The window rolled down, and Gideon looked at her. “Get in.”
Elena didn’t ask any questions. She opened the passenger door and slid inside. The car pulled away almost immediately, merging into traffic with practiced ease.
With someone else present, Landon’s men didn’t follow.
Only then did she finally relax a little. “What are you doing here?”
Gideon kept his eyes on the road, his tone firm. “Julian asked me to pick you up for dinner. He figured you might not come back tonight.”
Elena fell silent. He got it right.

Chapter 269 Unwanted Watchers
She had already reached out to a realtor earlier that day and started looking into buying her own place. Staying with Julian and Iris had begun to feel like a burden, especially when it meant dragging them into
unnecessary worry
“Did Alexander give you a hard time?” Gideon asked.
Even though it sounded like a question, his tone made it clear he had already reached his own conclusion.
“I told you before,” he continued, his voice tightening slightly, “guys like him don’t do real feelings. You should just end it. There’s no point making yourself miserable”
Elena tightened her grip on the seatbelt, her gaze drifting down to her stomach.
“I don’t want to talk about that right now,” she said quietly. “Work’s been a lot.”
“You’re avoiding it.”
Gideon didn’t soften his words. He glanced at her briefly, then back at the road. “I know you’re worried about the baby. If you’re willing to—”
His voice cut off abruptly.
His hands tightened on the steering wheel, something dark and restrained flashing through his eyes, but whatever he had been about to say never made it out.
Elena was looking out the window.
She hadn’t noticed.
“I don’t want to make decisions when I’m emotional,” she said, her voice tired as she closed her eyes. “Gideon, I really don’t want to
falk about this.”
Her mind drifted back to the message Hannah had sent earlier.
Fiona had left Pinnacle Group.
Gideon let out a quiet sigh, finally easing off. “Just think it through carefully. No one else can make this decision for you. Right now, the only thing that matters is you staying in a good place mentally. You’re pregnant, and the baby can feel what you feel.”
He paused, then added in a completely serious tone, “You know, if a mom’s in a bad mood during pregnancy, the baby might come out… not exactly cute.”
That caught Elena completely off guard.
Her attention snapped back to him. “That can’t be real, right? Isn’t that all genetics?”
Gideon nodded solemnly. “You’d think so, but once you hit the edge of science, you’re basically in superstition territory.”
“I don’t get it. I mean, Alexander and I-”
She stopped mid–sentence.
