Sham Marriage Quit, Real Heiress Strikes Back
Chapter 321 A Friend’s Envy
Elena’s tone was sharp, her words dripping with accusation.

The more she thought about everything this man had done-triggering Alexander’s relapse, getting Gideon locked up in county jail, causing so many kids unnecessary suffering-the more she wanted to tear him apart.
Isaac’s round face was heavy with what looked like regret.
“I… I didn’t want it to go this way,” he stammered. “But he promised me money. My grandma’s sick-I wanted to take her to a specialist overseas. The care there… it’s just better than what we can get here.”
“Don’t even try that excuse,” Elena shot back, seeing right through him. “You and Gideon were close. If you really needed help with your grandma’s medical bills, you could’ve gone to him. He would’ve had your back-that’s the kind of friend he was.
“But
you didn’t. You chose to betray him instead, which tells me you never really considered him a friend at all. Nathan showed up and gave you an easy out-a chance to let all that ugliness inside you take over. And now you’re gonna blame your grandmother? Isaac, that’s low. Really low.”
She felt nothing but contempt for him now.
It didn’t matter how much he played the devoted grandson in front of Olivia.
Isaac fell silent, his cheeks flushing red.
After a long pause, he finally dropped the act.
“You know what? Fine. Yeah, I was jealous of Gideon. We went to the same schools, same programs-but he was always ahead. Overseas, he got invited to all those conferences. Back here, he had you and Alexander supporting him. I worked just as hard, maybe harder! But now he runs the lab and I’m just… some staff pharmacist.”
He couldn’t take it anymore-always feeling second-best, always in Gideon’s shadow.
Elena listened, unimpressed. “He knew what it meant to be a doctor. You? You just knew how to resent someone else for doing it better.”
That shut him up completely.
“Gideon’s still in lockup,” Elena went on, her voice steady. “And no matter what I said, he refused to dirb you were behind any of this.”
She held Isaac’s gaze. “And those children… If you’ve got any conscience left, you know you have to take responsibility for what you did.”
Isaac’s shoulders slumped. He seemed to age right in front of her.
The silence stretched so long Elena started to wonder if he’d ever speak up.
Then, quietly, he said, “Let me go in for a few minutes. After that. Til go with you to see Gideon.

Elena nodded.

Through the glass, she watched Isaac walk into the hospital room. He sat by Olivia’s bed, talking softly. Elena guessed he was telling his grandmother he was going abroad for more training. Olivia’s face lit up. She reached for his hand, holding it tight, her words tumbling out in happy, rushed sentences.
The scene tugged at something deep in Elena’s memory-
Back when she was about to return to the Harts, her own mother had held her hand just like that.
“Ellie, be good when you get there, okay? Just be happy. Mom and Dad will miss you so much.
“And when you have time… well, maybe don’t call us too much. Your real parents might not like it. Just live your life, baby. Take care of yourself. That’s all that matters…”.
Elena’s eyes stung.
She looked down, blinking hard until the warmth behind her lids receded.
Not long after, Isaac stepped out of the room.
“Take me to him. I need to see Gideon.”
They drove to the county detention center. Paperwork was processed, and soon Gideon walked into the visitation area.
The moment he saw Isaac, his expression cracked-hurt, confusion, disbelief all flashing through his eyes. He didn’t speak, just gripped the divider until his knuckles turned white.
Isaac understood.
A bitter, humorless smile touched his lips. “Go ahead. Yell at me. Cuss me out. I did it. It was me.”
Just like that-simple, blunt admission.
Elena wasn’t surprised.
But Gideon looked like he’d been hit. His voice trembled when he finally found it. “Are you out of your mind, Isaac? Have you forgotten the oath we took? Everything we said we’d stand for?”
“I remember. Remembering doesn’t change anything. I still couldn’t keep up with you.” Isaac’s laugh was dry, hollow
Gideon stared, then grasped for reasons-
any reason. “Did someone pressure you? Was if Nathan What
did he say? Did he threaten your grandma’s situation?”
He was still trying, still hoping this was all some terrible misunderstanding. That his friend, ouldn’t really have done this.
“It doesn’t matter anymore,” Isaac said quietly.
