Chapter 334 Secretly Visiting
Firke
Fiona had just bought breakfast outside and was about to head back in when someone called out behin
her.
“Miss Scott.”
She stopped and turned.
The young nurse from the previous night hurried over, lowering her voice as though she were about to reveal something important. “I need to tell you a secret.”
Fiona suppressed the impatience rising inside her and responded with only a faint, polite hum.
“You’d better keep an eye on your boyfriend,” the nurse said, sounding half–scandalized and half–please with herself. “He’s so handsome that some shameless woman actually followed him all the way to the clinic.”
A faint ripple of unease passed through Fiona’s chest, though her expression barely changed.
“What do you mean?”
“It happened last night,” the nurse said eagerly. “A young woman came here asking for him and even claimed she was his wife.”
She kept talking, completely unaware of the flicker that passed through Fiona’s eyes.
Fiona deliberately widened them in mild surprise. “Really? Something like that happened? Are you sure you heard her correctly? Did she say what her name was?”
The nurse nodded with absolute certainty.
“She was definitely looking for Mr. Kingsley. I’m sure of it. What was the name again…” She paused, then snapped her fingers as if she had suddenly remembered. “Elena. That was it.”
Fiona’s grip tightened unconsciously around the breakfast bag.
“And what did you do?”
The nurse gave a smug little smile.
“I sent her away, of course. She sat outside by the flowerbed for quite a while too. It was freezing, but she just stayed there like she was determined to wait all night I honestly can’t stand women like that, the type who see someone else’s boyfriend and immediately want to insert themselves into the picture Isn’t that basically being a mistress? Absolutely shameless.”
Something in Fiona’s expression must have shifted, because the nurse hesitated and asked, “What’s wrong? Do you know her?”
Fiona smiled at once, light and effortless.
“No. I don’t know her. But thank you for telling me.”
have some breakfast.”
He didn’t even look up.
His attention remained on the laptop in front of him, his expression distant as he dealt with work.
“I already asked Ryan to book your flight for tomorrow,” he said at last, his tone flat. “You should go back.”
Her hands paused for only a fraction of a second.
You really want me gone that badly?” she asked, trying to keep her voice steady. “Even if we’re only Friends, it’s not unreasonable for me to stay and help.”
Only then did Alexander lift his eyes to her, and there was no warmth in them at all.
Declan is here. That’s enough.”
A man can’t take care of you as well as I can,” Fiona said quietly, unwilling to back down. “And it’s easier for me to communicate with Dr. Newton.”
She didn’t want to leave.
For a moment, the air between them hardened into silence.
Then Fiona forced a smile and softened her voice. “I know you’re not in a good mood right now, and I understand. I’ll go speak to Dr. Newton and see whether there’s any other way to help.”
With that, she turned and left the room.
After she was gone, Alexander picked up his phone and opened his chat with Elena
The screen still showed the same message from the day before
She said she was busy.
Busy doing what?
Busy being with Gideon?
Even in her condition, even while carrying his child, she still had the energy to stay by Gideon’s side and help his clean up the mess at Pinecrest Medical Center.
It wasn’t until ten that morning that Elena finally called Declan
“Ma’am?”

He had just arrived at Alexander’s room and was visibly startled when he saw her name on the screen. The moment he spoke, Alexander looked up instinctively.
Declan listened for a while, answered with a brief acknowledgment, and only hung up about a minute later.
Alexander’s gaze stayed on him.
“What was that?”
Declan answered carefully, “Ma’am was asking whether you’re feeling any better. She said she’s been a li busy these past two days…”
Alexander said nothing.
So she had even gone out of her way to call Declan just to tell him that she was busy.
Was, she that afraid he might contact her himself and interrupt whatever she was doing with Gideon?
Declan hesitated, then added, “Ma’am also asked me to buy a few things for Miss Sophia.”
“Go.”
Only after hearing that answer did Declan quietly let out the breath he had been holding.
He left the hospital, but instead of driving toward the shopping district, he headed in the opposite direction.
More than half an hour later, the car pulled up outside another hospital.
Elena had just finished her IV and gone to the restroom. When she came back out, she saw Declan standing outside the room.
“You’re here.”
A moment earlier, when he hadn’t seen her inside, he had almost convinced himself dat perhaps she had just been joking, but the instant he turned and saw her standing there in a hospital gown, whatever relet he had felt vanished.
She looked terrible.
Her face was drained of all color, her long black hair falling loosely down her back, and her entre figure seemed frail in a way that made her smile look even more jarring, because somehow, despite how pale and exhausted she was, she was still smiling at him
As she walked toward him, Declan reached out instinctively to steady her
“I’s alright,” she said. “It’s not as bad as it looks.”
In truth, she was much better than she had been the night before, but the doctor had told her that her anemia was severe enough that she needed to remain under observation for another day.
