Chapter 335 Refusing to Leave
“It’s no trouble,” Declan said. “If you were planning to come, you should have told me in advance. I wou have arranged for someone to travel with you.”
“Elena lowered her eyes for a moment before answering softly. “Ari didn’t want me to come.”
If Declan had hidden this from Alexander and sent someone to accompany her anyway, he would almo certainly have been blamed for it afterward, and that was the last thing she wanted. Calling him now ha already been a reluctant compromise.
“You told me the name of the clinic where he was staying, so went there as soon as I landed last night,” she explained. “But the nurse on duty told me he wasn’t there.”
She recounted everything that had happened after she arrived, and as Declan listened, his expression gradually darkened.
‘Someone told you Mr. Kingsley wasn’t there?”
Elena nodded. “A nurse with a round face.”
Declan frowned. “Then she either lied or decided to pretend she hadn’t heard you properly.”
‘That’s what I thought too,” Elena said. “There’s no way you would have made a mistake about something like that.”
Before Declan could respond, the young doctor who had treated Elena earlier noticed him standing by t bed and walked over. Without waiting for an explanation, she looked at him with open disapproval.
“Even if the second trimester is generally safer, shes still pregnant,” the doctor said. “Long–distance trave is not advisable, and letting her come to the hospital alone like this is extremely irresponsible.”
Elena was so embarrassed she almost wished she could disappear into the blankets. “Doctor, you’ve misunderstood. He isn’t my husband.”
The doctor blinked, clearly caught off guard, and only then seemed to notice that although Declan had been standing by Elena’s bedside the entire time, his manner toward her was careful and cespectful in a way that made their relationship immediately clear.
“Oh. I’m sorry”
“It’s alright,” Declan said. “How is she?”
“She’s exhausted, she caught a chill, and she has mild anemia on top of that What she needs most right
now is rest.”
As he listened, the crease in Declan’s brow deepened
Once the doctor left, he turned back to Elena. “Mrs Kingsley, as soon as you’re feeling better, Ill arrange a private flight to take you home.”
Elena smiled, though there was stubbornness beneath it “I didn’t come all this way just to stay here for a

day or two and then go right back.”
“Mr. Kingsley would never have wanted you to take this kind of risk alone,” Declan said carefully. “Going home really is the safest choice.
She shook her head at once. “Don’tury to persuade me. I know Fiona is with him right now, and I know introduced Dr. Newton to him. Whatever her reasons were, she helped him, and I’m not angry about th
She paused, and when she spoke again, her voice softened.
‘Besides, the New Year is almost here, and I want to spend it with him.”
For her, New Year had always meant something special. It was the kind of day that made people want to with the one person who mattered most, no matter where they were in the world.
Declan knew from the look on her face that there was no changing her mind, so after a brief silence. hel out a nearly inaudible sigh and relented.
‘Then I’ll arrange another place for you to stay.”
Elena brightened immediately. “Thank you. And please don’t tell Ari I’m here yet. I want to surprise him
After leaving the hospital, Declan stopped by a mall before returning to the clinic. He picked out two pieces of jewelry, paid for them, and only then headed back.
When he stepped inside, he happened to find Fiona chatting with the same nurse from the night before.
‘You’re back,” Fiona said, greeting him with a small nod.
She had always known that he and Ryan were among Alexander’s most trusted people, and even though Declan’s official role was that of a bodyguard, that trust alone was enough to make him someone worth staying on good terms with.
Declan glanced at her once and kept walking, his expression unreadable as he headed toward Alexander’s
room.
Being ignored so completely in front of her eager little admirer left Fiona looking taintly displeased
The nurse, meanwhile, was more than happy to take Fiona’s side.
“Who does he think he is?” she muttered “You’re Mr. Kingsley’s girlfriend, and he’s just a bodyguard acting like that in front of you”
Fiona lifted a hand as though to stop her, though there was a certain satisfaction in being defended so openly.
“Don’t say that,” she said. “Ari values him very highly.”
