Chapter 336 The Wife Who Was Turried Away
Declan gave Fiona only the befest glance before turning to the nurse instead.
“Did someone come looking for Mr. Kingsley last night?”
Nana immediately began to stammer. L.. I think so, yes
“She said she was Mr. Kingsley’s wife,” she added, her voice growing weaker under his gaze. “I thought she was lying, so I had her sent away. Did… did something happen?”
Even as she spoke, she kept shooting Fiona pleading looks, clearly hoping she would step in and smooth things over, but Fiona merely pressed her lips together and avoided meeting her eyes, and it was that silence more than anything else that made Nana’s unease deepen
A terrible thought suddenly surfaced in her mind.
Could that woman have been telling the truth?
Could she really have been Alexander’s wife?
But Nana rejected the idea almost as soon as it appeared. If that woman had truly been his wife, then why would she have needed to ask whether he was there at all? And besides, ever since he had arrived, Fiona had been the one staying by his side. What kind of wife would tolerate another woman being so close to her husband?
“Who told you she was lying?” Declan asked coldly.
He was taller than everyone around him, and when he looked down at someone with that expressionless face, the pressure he gave off was enough to make Nana’s scalp go numb.
“She is Mrs. Kingsley. Didn’t anyone ever teach you that when you’re not sure about something, you verify it before making a decision?”
Nana froze.
For a moment, she simply stood there staring at him, unable to process what she had just heard, and when it finally sank in, the color drained from her face all at once.
That woman… had actually been Mrs. Kingsley.
Seeing her panic, Fiona finally spoke.
“There’s no need to be so upset,” she said to Declan in a measured tone. “Nana was only thinking about Ari’s safety. His situation is special, and besides, no one would have expected Elena to come all the way
here.”
Only then did Declan turn to look at her properly.
There was still no warmth in his eyes.
If anything, the look carried a trace of contempt.

“She didn’t know” he said. “But Miss Scott, are you saying you didn’t know either?”
For a split second, Fiona’s smile stiffened.”
No matter what Alexander thought of her, she had never believed that someone in Declan’s position had the right to speak to her like that.
“Whether I knew or didn’t know is beside the potat,” she replied, the softness leaving her voice. “My role here is to stay with Ari. As for you, Declan, perhaps I should remind you that you are only a bodyguard. The way you keep taking Elena’s side is enough to make anyone wonder.”
Declan let out a quiet laugh, though there was no amusement in it.
He turned away without another word, but the look he threw her before leaving was sharp with mockery and disdain, as if he could already see through every calculation behind her expression.
Fiona felt her chest tighten with anger.
The moment he was gone, Nana turned on her.
“Why didn’t you tell me that woman was Mr. Kingsley’s wife?”
There was obvious resentment in her voice now, because she had already told Fiona everything, and not once had Fiona offered even the slightest hint.
Fiona looked at her with practiced innocence. “You did tell me about it, but I wasn’t certain that woman was really Elena. And please don’t take your temper out on me. I don’t like that, and Dr. Newton certainly wouldn’t like having staff who can’t control their emotions.”
Nana went speechless, though the words in her head were far less polite.
What a bitch.
Declan did not stay in Alexander’s room long.
Fiona remained outside, listening as carefully as she could, but the voices within were too faint to make out clearly, and all she caught were a few scattered words about gifts. Elena’s name was never mentioned.
That alone made her lift a brow.
So Declan really had chosen not to tell Alexander that Elena had come looking for him. Perhaps Elena herself had misunderstood something, which suited Fiona perfectly well, because if Declan wasn’t going to bring it up, she certainly had no intention of doing so either.
Once he left, she went into the room.
As expected, there were two gift boxes on the table, both from a well-known local luxury house.
“What’s that?” she asked lightly, as though only mildly curious.
She stepped closer and looked inside.

One box held a pink diamond necklace, and the other contained a matching bracelet. Together they made an unmistakably expensive set, dazzling and delicate and clearly chosen with care.
“Did Declan pick those out?” Fiona asked, keeping her tone casual. “I saw him carrying the bag just now.”
Alexander was still working, his eyes on the laptop in front of him.
“Yes.”
Fiona let her gaze linger on the jewelry for another second before speaking again, her tone almost thoughtful.
“He seems to know Elena’s taste quite well. Come to think of it, they must have spent a fair amount of time together. He usually seems so distant, but apparently he understands women better than I thought. He even knows exactly what kind of things Elena likes.”
