Chapter 41 Tense Lobby
The four girls ahead of her walked into the conference room one after another, and each of them came back out in less than ten minutes.
“So, how was it? Were the questions brutal?”
Someone stopped the last girl who came out and asked about the interview.
The girl looked completely defeated. “It was so stiff in there, nobody cracked a smile. I’m probably don for.”
She shook her head and walked off.
Elena felt her stomach tighten. She had already heard that Velmora Media was notoriously selective. Ev interns were expected to come from top–tier universities with formal journalism degrees. Still, the ben were incredible, and the industry connections were unmatched.
People said that once you introduced yourself as a Velmora reporter, you were already halfway to landi the interview.
She pulled out her compact mirror and lightly touched up her makeup, making sure she looked polishe and composed.
A mocking voice drifted over from beside her. “You know they’re not hiring based on your face, right?”
Elena paused slightly and turned her head.
The girl speaking had blunt bangs and the fresh–out–of–college look, attractive, dressed in a tailored suit with a visible brand logo on the tag.
But Elena did not recognize her.
She finished fixing her makeup and slid the compact back into her bag.
Seeing that Elena did not respond, the girl rolled her eyes and lazily flipped through her résumé. She did not look nervous at all. Every now and then she even pulled out her phone and sent voice messages to a friend.
“Number five, Luna,”
A few minutes later, the conference room door opened and Lisa, the HR called out a name.
The girl who had been rolling her eyes at Elena stood up confidently and walked in. It was not long before
she came back out.
Lisa followed behind her.
Elena glanced at the time. From the moment Luna walked in to the moment she walked out, it had been less than six minutes.
“Head home and wait for our call. We’ll let you know as soon as there’s an update,” Lisa said.
Luna blinked playfully, “Sure. Oh, can you tell my cousin to come over for dinner tonight? My mom misses her. She’s stuck in interviews today, so I didn’t get to talk to her.”
“Okay, Lisa replied.
Then she called out again, “Number six, Elena.”
Elena stood and walked toward the conference room. As she passed Luna, she heard a faint, almost dismissive scoff.

The remaining two interviewers continued with professional questions.
