Chapter 42 Unexpected Offer
“Ms. Sterling, we’d like you to start on Monday. Welcome to Velmora Media. We hope you enjoy worki with us.”
Everyone except the short–haired woman froze for a second, including Elena.
That fast? She’s already setting her start date?
“And the salary?” Elena asked. “We haven’t discussed that yet.”
Lisa smiled. “Given your experience, we’re happy to match the number you requested.”
Even after leaving the Velmora building, Elena still felt slightly dazed. She turned to look back at the g tower behind her, a strange feeling lingering in her chest.
That had not felt like a standard interview process. It felt more like someone had quietly fast–tracked h straight through.
Still, she couldn’t ignore the paycheck.
Her mood lifted. She was about to text Chloe and suggest celebrating over dinner when her phone rang first.
It was Alexander.
“Hello, Mr. Kingsley,” she said politely. There was still a certain distance in her tone, even though their wedding was less than two weeks away.
She barely knew him. The unfamiliar outweighed the familiar.
There was a brief silence on the other end before he cleared his throat. “Would you be free to have dinn together tonight?”
Elena hesitated for a moment, then agreed. With the wedding approaching, spending more time togedie made sense,
After confirming the restaurant, she drove over. Alexander ended the call and prepared to leave when a woman stepped in front of him.
“You’re having dinner with your future wife?”
She wore a fitted black silk dress. Though past fifty, she looked impeccably maintained, her features still carrying the elegance of her younger years. Her expression was controlled, her gaze as commanding as Alexander’s.
He adjusted his cufflinks. “We’re getting married soon. It’s reasonable to spend time together.”
The living room was silent. The staff standing nearby watched Evelyn Kingsley nervously. Everyone knew she cared deeply about her son’s marriage. She had tried more than once to set him up, but Alexander had never shown interest.
This time, Walter had produced an old friend’s dying wish and finalized the engagement without consulting her.
And rumor had it that the future bride had once been married.
Evelyn was clearly displeased.
