The stuff Caroline stocked up on might not come in handy right away, but once the extreme weather passed and she planned to move out, they would definitely be useful.

By the afternoon, she went back to check on the renovation and was relieved to see the walls being repainted.

The workers‘ attitudes toward her had shifted, too–gone was the dismissive look, and they were suddenly much more serious about their work.

Later, Caroline took Raven out to a slaughterhouse on the outskirts.

The owner there hooked her up with a sugar supplier from the south, and Caroline immediately ordered thousands of pounds of different types of sugar.

With food, heat, and essentials mostly covered, she felt a little more secure,

The generator, solar panels, and protective clothing she had ordered online were also on the way.

That night, Caroline set up her laptop and started downloading a mountain of e–books, movies, and TV series.

Raven lay beside her, eyes glued to the screen. Whenever an animal popped up, it would spring up excitedly, ears perked, nose twitching, as if trying to sniff them out.

Caroline could not stop laughing and added a bunch of nature documentaries for them to watch together.

She soon noticed Raven was just as fascinated by cartoons.

Whenever the characters did something over–the–top, Raven would stare with wide eyes like it could not figure out how any of it made sense.

That was enough for Caroline to go on another downloading spree, grabbing every cartoon she could find.
