Caroline watched the baby panda in the wooden tub start breathing slowly and steadily. She was finally relieved.

But the problem was still there. The baby panda’s spine was broken, and it was badly misaligned. This condition was not something spring water could fix.

Caroline looked straight at the mother panda and said seriously, “Do you trust me? I can save your baby. But I need to take it away.”

The mother panda wasn’t smart enough to fully understand her words. But she looked at the baby panda in Caroline’s hands, then at Caroline herself. After that, she glanced at the bamboo shoot she was holding. Then, she suddenly moved.

She squatted down, picked up two more cubs from the corner, and pushed them out of the cage.

Caroline’s jaw dropped.

So, you gave birth to eight in total, and you’re handing seven of them to me?

The mother panda knew her limits. She understood that, in her current state, she could only care for one, cub. The best choice for the other three was to give them to this kind–looking human who had food.

“I’ll bring your babies back for you when I have time.”

Caroline said before leaving. She didn’t know if the mother panda understood. She wasn’t even sure the mother panda was listening.

The mother panda turned her big backside toward Caroline. In her hands were the three bamboo shoots and three apples Caroline had just given her. It looks like she had traded three cubs for these snacks.

Crunch! Crunch! She ate loudly and happily. In less than a minute, two apples and two bamboo shoots were gone. Not even scraps were left.

Judging by that speed, Caroline figured the food would be gone before she even left the floor.

Speechless, Caroline pulled out a bag from her storage space and gently placed the two healthy cubs inside. She carried the bag in one hand and held a box with the injured cub in the other. Finally, she said goodbye to the mother panda.

Because all the pandas belonged to the base, Caroline didn’t put them into her storage space. Otherwise, it would look like she was stealing them. Carrying them openly meant she planned to explain everything to the soldiers and to Francis later.

As soon as she left the floor, she ran into the soldier who had gone to treat his wound. He had just come back.

Caroline gave a quick explanation. The injured cub needed to be taken to Nelson for treatment. The other two were entrusted to her by the mother panda.

The soldier was stunned. What an unreliable mother!

But then again, even before the apocalypse, pandas had already become protected animals. Even wildlife protection groups used panda dolls as mascots. That alone showed how weak their breeding ability and survival skills were.

Later, it was only thanks to artificial breeding technology that pandas avoided extinction.

Just like that, Caroline carried the cubs and knocked on Nelson’s door.

After handing the injured cub to Nelson and giving him a bottle of formula, Caroline finally took the other two cubs back to her room.

As soon as she got back, she got busy feeding the baby pandas.

When she put all the cubs together, Caroline noticed something right away. The new ones were much smaller than the four she already had. They were almost a full size smaller.

One of them looked especially pitiful. Fur had only grown on its paws and back. Its belly and head were still bare.

Caroline gently touched its head. “Poor little thing. You were actually born bald.”.

She gave it a bit more milk.

Nearby, Raven and Jet stared at the suddenly larger group of babies. They stood there for a long time without moving, completely stunned.
