Nelson lowered his hand. With his scimitar sheathed, he looked like nothing more than an ordinary doctor arriving to examine his patients

Over the past few days, the military had already taken blood samples from these people. The test results showed that their blood was no different from human blood, except that the oxygen levels were higher.

But among ability users, everyone’s blood oxygen levels were higher than normal humans. That alone did not prove anything.

Even now, the military personnel still suspected that the people in the room were just unusual ability users, not humanoid creatures from the sea.

Caroline and Nelson cautiously approached them. When they realized the group showed no hostility at all, Nelson finally put away his scimitar.

At the same time, he kept muttering to himself, Something’s off. This doesn’t make sense. Most records of sea humanoids describe them as hostile. Disappearing sailors, strange songs that can take lives, all those siren legends. But these people they’re not showing any aggression at all. Or maybe they came ashore with some other purpose.

Caroline observed them as well.

They were all strikingly beautiful, beautiful to an almost shocking degree.

Their skin was extremely pale.

In sunlight, instead of showing any sign of scales, their skin looked smooth and polished, almost like marble, delicate enough to seem unreal.

Maybe we should try a different approach,Nelson said, his tone suddenly shifting, a hint of excitement creeping in.

Caroline watched the group warily, halfexpecting them to suddenly leap forward and attack like the hostile sea humanoids described in legend. Then she saw it. Nelson started dancing.

He held the scimitar, spread his legs, shrugged his shoulders, crossed his feet back and forth, and bounced from side to side. His upper body shook now and then, and his arms flailed wildly.

It looked ridiculous.

But that was not all. After a few moves, when he realized the people in front of him had no reaction at all, he took off his white lab coat, tied it around his waist, and kept dancing.

This time, the scimitar in his hand was raised upright instead of hunging loosely.

Outside the room, watching through the one way glass, Francis elbowed Alger. Sowhat do you think he’s doing?

Alger watched for a long moment before answering, “Some kind of ritual?

What he really wanted to call it was a mating display. After all, male peacocks spread their tail feathers and hop around nonstop to show off in front of females.

I don’t know, it kind of looks like he’s provoking them,” Francis said, rubbing his chin.

Back inside, when Nelson realized there was still no response, he stopped. With a blank expression, he pulled out a notebook and jotted down a few notes.

Caroline, who had watched the entire awkward performance, could not help asking, What were you doing?

Some ancient dance used as a greeting. Looks like they don’t understand it,Nelson replied. The moment he finished speaking, the people in front of them suddenly moved.

They spat at Nelson.

Caroline fell silent.

What the hell?

Nelson was speechless too.

Was his dancing really that bad?

Then they realized that what the group spat out was not random at all. Each of them had produced a pearl.

After comparing them, they selected the largest one and handed it to Nelson.

Nelson accepted it excitedly and responded with another strange dance step.

Then he turned to Caroline. Caroline, look. They responded to me. This is proof of friendship. I must have been wrong. They’re not violent at all. They’re actually very friendly.

As he spoke, Nelson held the beautiful pearl out toward Caroline.

But Caroline did not say anything.

Because she had just seen a faint, illintentioned smile on the face of the beautiful woman
