Chapter 55
d made and solid before, but honestly, it didn’t smell nearly as good as hers.
way the leader looked so pleased last time.
Looks like they’ve really nailed his tastes, huh? Andrea thought.
Before long she heard some noise coming from outside
Andrea tensed up a little
When the giant rat walked in. Andrea had to fight the urge to stand up.
Honestly, with that giant rat towering over six feet tall, it was seriously intimidating
She kept telling herself. Tm the leader. I’m the top dog here. Everyone else is a bunch of nobodies.
With an air of absolute authority, Andrea leaned back in her chair, acting like she owned the place.
The giant rat walked in, its face instantly lighting up with a respectful smile.
It gave Andrea a polite greeting, then, with a humble and deferential gesture, presented her with a beautifully wrapped gift
box
Andrea kept up her bossy act, not even glancing at the gifts, much less reaching out to take them.
Seeing this, the giant rat didn’t even dare to breathe too loudly. It grovelingly unwrapped each item one by one and slid them across the table to her.
The cloth bag was packed full of gold coins. There were around a thousand in there.
The gift box was loaded with snacks. When Andrea saw what was inside, her jaw clenched so hard she thought she might crack a tooth.
She saw Crispy Centipede Feet.
She recognized that gift box. It was the same one she’d sold from her stall.
‘So all the monster snacks I’ve been selling are this kind of thing?” Andrea thought.
The giant rat said, “Boss, I spent a fortune on these. They taste amazing.
“I wanted to make up for my two brothers screwing up the last mission. Please forgive them.”
The giant rat looked at her with pleading, hopeful eyes.
Andrea decided to call it quits, let out a theatrical sigh, and swept everything straight into her storage space.
She picked up her cup, and the giant rat quickly refilled it for her.
Seeing her stash the gifts, the giant rat let out a quiet sigh of relief.
Andrea took a small sip of tea, pretending to be nonchalant as she asked, “So, how many people have you caught recently?”
Chapter 55
The giant rat hurried over to report to Andrea, “Before I came in, we rounded up 132 players.
“They were all caught for stealing, breaking the rules, or sneaking around at night when they should’ve been obeying the
curfew.
Remembering last night, Andrea thought to herself, ‘Most of them probably got nabbed for wandering around after hours. “What happened to that rabid rat?” Andrea asked.
The giant rat paused, surprised Andrea knew about it. After all, it had already handled the situation last night.
It quickly explained, “It’s already been dealt with.
“That rat was way too poisoned. I tried using the detox spray, but it didn’t work.”
The rat tribe strictly forbade harming their own. Even when punishing criminals, they had to list their crimes before any action was taken.
Andrea nodded and didn’t press further.
She’d only asked these questions to set the stage.
After finishing her coffee, Andrea let the tension hang in the air, then stood up.
“Take me to see the birdmen you’ve got locked up,” she said.
The giant rat quietly breathed a sigh of relief, said yes right away, and led her outside.
‘Man, the leader really knows everything. We haven’t even told him about catching those two birdmen yet, the giant rat thought to itself.
As they walked, the giant rat silently warned itself, ‘Gotta be more careful with how I handle things from now on.
As they headed further into the estate, the path sloped lower and lower.
Finally, they stopped in front of an iron gate.
Andrea peeked inside and saw that it turned out to be a dungeon.
She watched the rat monsters coming and going, quietly figuring out how to get those two birdmen out of the dungeon.
She stood still for a bit, watching, and the rat monsters all bowed to her as they passed by.
Andrea noticed their movements were much stiffer than usual. She thought, ‘Guess these rat monsters are pretty
scared of
‘So this is what being a leader feels like.
She pulled out 70 bags of snacks she’d reforged yesterday from her space and handed them to the giant rat.
“These are from Monster City. You decide how to distribute them. Have them all leave first. I’ll go in and take a look” she said.
Chapter 55
With that, she shot the giant rat a look that brooked no argument, her gaze fixed on the dungeon gate
“I like to be alone.” Andrea said.
The giant rat got moving fast.
Andrea kept getting system pop-ups about sharing snacks and racking up monster favor points.
This round, she scored 350 affection points with the monsters, bumping her total up to 450.
In a couple of minutes, the rat monsters were gone from the area.
The gate stood wide open, as if it were welcoming Andrea in.
Andrea walked straight in without a second thought.
Inside, it was all stairs leading down, and the passage kept getting narrower. It was barely wide enough for two people to walk side by side.
The key thing was, there weren’t any lights at all in the passage.
These rat monsters loved digging tunnels and had night vision, so they didn’t bother with lighting. That made things easy for them, but it was rough on Andrea.
As the darkness closed in around her and she realized she’d walked quite a ways from the entrance, Andrea finally decided to pull out her flashlight.
The moment she turned it on, a strange gust of wind brushed past her.
It was like something floated past.
Andrea was speechless.
Come on, isn’t surviving enough? Now I have to deal withhorror tropes too?’ Andrea thought.
The further she descended, the chill seeped deeper into her bones.
Andrea ran her hand over the goosebumps on her arms, turned another corner, and finally found herself in a wide chamber. Torches lined the walls, their flames dancing and barely lighting up the place, leaving everything shrouded in gloom.
Andrea turned off her flashlight and tightened her grip on her dagger.
She walked about twenty more yards, and up ahead, she spotted several huge iron cages.
Most of the cages were packed with players.
When the players saw someone come in, they all scrambled up.
Grabbing onto the iron bars, they started yelling out to Andrea.
A person said, “Let me out!”
Another said, “Please, let me out. I promise I won’t steal again. I took a chunk of meat, and I already gave it back!”
Someone said, “I only grabbed some fish food. I swear I’m innocent!”
Chapter 35
Someone else said, “I didn’t do anything wrong. I was walking down the street. Why am I locked up for that?”
A person said, “You filthy rats. How dare you grab me? If you don’t kill me today. I’m gonna tear you apart when I get out
As soon as he finished, the dungeon fell silent for a few seconds.
Then someone shouted, “Do you think this is a world with law and order? Are you nuts? If you wanna die, don’t drag us down with you!”
Andrea didn’t even spare them a glance. She strode right past, heading deeper into the dungeon.
Letting these guys out now would be nothing but trouble.
Once she got the birdmen out, then she’d think about saving the players.
Andrea walked another few dozen yards until she reached the deepest part of the dungeon.
From a distance, she spotted the little green fluffball huddled up tight against a birdman with brown wings in the corner.
Andrea blinked in surprise when she saw the birdman. It was the same guy who’d dragged Horace to Russell’s shop last time.
‘Wait, so this guy’s actually green-haired kid’s dad?’ Andrea thought.
At the cage door, a man dressed in black was intently working on the lock.
‘When did this guy get in here?’ Andrea thought.
Andrea stopped in her tracks, not about to approach carelessly.
She recognized him as the player who’d been sneaking around last night.
‘Guess this guy’s got some serious skills,’ Andrea thought.
She remembered that strange gust of wind earlier and glanced at the man, a suspicion forming in her mind.
Her eyes stayed glued to his hands as he worked the lock. He looked like a total pro.
It was like watching one of those lock-picking experts online. He was super confident and all business. But the lock wasn’t budging an inch.
As time dragged on, he started to lose his cool, getting more and more agitated.
Then, out of nowhere, he suddenly pulled an axe out of thin air and slammed it down with a heavy clang.
The lock was still perfectly intact.
Andrea knew for sure he’d already noticed her. He probably even came in right behind her.
But he was acting like she wasn’t even there, totally confident he wouldn’t get outplayed by her.
Andrea had a mission to finish, and she trusted her ability to protect herself.
She couldn’t stand there waiting for him forever.
She gave a small cough to signal she was coming over.
Chapter 54
The man looked up at her, as expected.
Andrea stepped forward a few paces. “Want me to give it a try?”
The man furrowed his brow, his lips twitching like he wanted to say something, but he kept quiet.
He was a bit reluctant, but he had to admit Andrea had helped him out.
If it weren’t for her clearing out the rats, he wouldn’t even have a shot at his quest in here.
Why the hell won’t this stupid lock open?’ he thought.
Even though he seriously doubted Andrea could get it open, he still stepped aside to let her have a go.
While examining the lock, Andrea discreetly slipped the wire from her wrist into the keyhole.
Half a minute later, the lock didn’t budge at all.
The wire sent Andrea a signal.
This lock was enchanted with a special effect.

green-haired kid seemed to hear her voice and popped his little green head out from behind the brown-winged birdman.
When he spotted Andrea, his eyes lit up instantly.
But he stayed quiet, not wanting to cause Andrea any trouble.
He ducked his head back and kept waiting.
There was only one option now.
green-haired kid knew he had to trust Andrea.
“Those rats will be back soon. If you can’t get it open, let me have another go. And if that doesn’t work, I’ll brute-force it,” the man said.
