Chapter 56
The man was getting a bit anxious, standing nearby and explaining how to pick the lock to Andrea.
Seeing Andrea fiddling with the lock, he was dying to do it himself.
Andrea gave him a speechless look, thinking, ‘It’s only been a minute. What’s the rush?’
“Let me explain this…” the man started to say.
But the next second, there was a click, and the lock sprang open.
The man couldn’t believe his eyes. He froze for a few seconds, then came over and inspected the lock closely
“Holy crap. Are you that good? How’d you do it?” he blurted out.
He was practically buzzing with excitement, clearly itching to pick Andrea’s brain about it.
Andrea didn’t bother answering. She didn’t have time for this, so she walked straight into the cage.
The man didn’t feel awkward at all, even though she’d ignored him.
He finally snapped back to business, decisively stashed the lock away, planning to take it home for a closer look later.
He walked into the cage, only to see green-haired kid dash straight over and hug Andrea’s leg.
“Thanks for saving me again!” green-haired kid said.
The man paused, shooting looks between Andrea, green-haired kid, and the brown-winged birdman sitting on the floor.
He finally sighed, changed direction, and walked out.
“Congrats on completing the mission. This place isn’t safe. You’d better get out of here quickly,” he said.
With that, he waved at Andrea and disappeared without a trace.
A chilling gust of wind brushed against Andrea’s face.
If she were still in the real world, she’d really feel like she’d seen a ghost.
After the man left, green-haired kid climbed up Andrea’s leg and nestled into the crook of her arm.
He beamed, “I knew you’d come to rescue Dad and me!”
“Dad?” Andrea blurted out.
She stared for a moment, then glanced at green-haired kid’s green hair and shifted her gaze to the brown-winged birdman who was slowly getting up.
“So, do you
take after your mom?” Andrea asked.
green-haired kid’s dad rolled his eyes. “So you’re his friend? Great. Ask him why he insists on rocking a green
“Because it’s cool! It’s also healthy and good for the planet!” green-haired kid shot back.
head.
Andrea and green-haired kid’s dad both went quiet.
Andrea kept her thoughts to herself. She didn’t want to knock the little guy’s confidence.
Besides, she felt that there was nothing wrong with green.
It was healthy and good for the planet.
Andrea didn’t waste any more time. She scooped up green-haired kid and made a beeline for the exit.
If anything went wrong and they got stuck in this cramped space, that’d be a real headache.
As Andrea passed by the players’ cages, things got noisy again.
She didn’t respond. She quietly unlocked their doors as she walked past.
The locks were unlatched, but wouldn’t actually open unless someone pushed them.
She planned to give the players a heads-up once she and the others were safely out.
Or maybe they’d figure it out themselves before that.
She’d
She’d done all she could for them. Any more, and she’d be asking for trouble.
Once they finally made it back to the surface, Andrea took a deep breath of fresh air.
The suffocating feeling from being stuck in that cramped space finally faded away.
Once they were out of the dungeon, there was no way anyone could keep those two birdmen locked up.
Andrea told them to fly right over the wall and find somewhere to lay low for a while.
Once Andrea figured the birdmen had gotten far enough, she decided it was time to bail, too.
Then, a system notification popped up in her mind.
[Congratulations! You’ve completed the mission to rescue Kiki. Rewards have been distributed.]
Andrea was surprised.
She thought, ‘Wait, what?
‘So Kiki is green-haired kid or his dad?”
Andrea found it pretty funny. She’d ended up finishing the mission by sheer luck.
She figured her luck wasn’t half bad after all.
Andrea decided to hang out in the mansion a little more, in case there was anything good to snag
She glanced around the old-school courtyard, which was full of flowers and ornamental plants.
Andrea had zero interest in admiring the scenery. She couldn’t help but complain, “Why not grow some vegetables instead?”
After wandering for half an hour, she dug up a few asparagus, planning to take them home and grow them for fresh food
later.

Chapter 56
This leader really doesn’t know how to enjoy life like Scarface does, Andrea thought.
Some of the rooms were huge, but completely empty. It looked like hardly anyone ever stayed in this place.
Andrea managed to pick up a few pieces of trash that the system actually recognized, and handed them in for the quest
These days, it was seriously tough to find distinct trash that the system would accept.
If she had some time today, she’d hit up the town and see if she could snag a few more.
Her mission progress was now at 40 out of 50.
Seeing there was nothing left to find, Andrea decided to head out through the front gate.
No one was about to stop her now. The place was still calm, so the rat monsters clearly hadn’t caught on to what went down in the dungeon.
Following the way she’d come in, Andrea quickly made her way to the front gate.
as Andrea was about to head out, a huge, familiar silhouette stepped through the doorway.
“So you’ve got the guts to show your face in front of me!” Andrea hadn’t even seen his face yet when that furious shout hit her ears.
She immediately knew who it was. But she stayed perfectly calm.
She didn’t even bother to get angry about being challenged. She just gave him a cold, deadpan stare.
She needed to keep up the demeanor of a leader. This kind of trivial matter was beneath her notice. Sure enough, before the giant rat could get another word out, another rat dragged him away. “Ted, are you out of your mind? How dare you talk to the leader like that!” Alban Carter snapped.
“Alban, you’re the one who’s crazy. Look at him. How could he possibly be the leader?” Ted Carter shoved Alban aside and charged at Andrea, fists raised.
Andrea took a couple steps back, mostly because she was worried Alban might not be able to hold back Ted, who looked ready to go berserk.
After all, she’d really pissed him off last time in the tunnel. She had no idea if the bump on his head had gone down yet.
As Ted was about to lunge, Alban yelled, “You’re totally crazy!”
Then he waved his hand, and a bunch of rat monsters instantly swarmed over, helping Alban tie Ted up.
“You’re all being duped. He’s a villain!” Ted shouted, still struggling against the ropes.
Alban said, “No way. I think the leader looks even more approachable than before.
“Must be because my respect for him keeps growing. You should learn from me.”
With that, Alban flashed Andrea a big, apologetic smile, hoping she wouldn’t take offense.
“Do you even know what you’re doing? Remember what happened with the key last time…” Ted kept struggling.

Andrea’s heart sank. Ted was about to bring up all the stuff she had done before.
But before Ted could finish. Alban suddenly pulled out a dirty rag and stuffed it right into his mouth.
“All I know is you’re asking for trouble, always making things harder for me!” Alban snapped, looking at him like he was hopeless.
Then Alban shoved Ted’s head down and apologized to Andrea on his behalf.
Andrea’s face stayed perfectly blank. She said, “I will let you off this time.”
Andrea thought, ‘Well, that’s it. Ted’s definitely holding a grudge against me now.
“Whatever, not a big deal.
‘When you’re already in deep, what’s one more grudge?
‘Maybe I’ll pay him back someday if I get the chance.’
Andrea strode out, the rat monsters standing respectfully on both sides, heads down, not daring to meet her gaze.
No
one
dared to say a word.
Ted, though, wasn’t about to give up, even with a rag shoved in his mouth.
He kept thrashing around, mumbling through the gag, “You’re doomed…”
