Once Andrea was out of the mansion’s security zone, she picked up her pace and headed straight for the diner

She’d already finished the mission, but it wasn’t time to leave the dungeon yet, so she couldn’t teleport back to her island

She decided to head back to the diner first. She figured the green-haired kid and the rest would be there.

On her way, Andrea messaged Dominic, asking him to quietly leak the news that the prison door had been opened

But she made it clear that no one could know she was behind it.

She sent him a pitcher of juice as a token of appreciation for his help.

The diner was locked up tight. Andrea hesitated at the door for a moment, but finally pushed it open.

She was ready to bolt the second Russell noticed anything suspicious.

Like she’d guessed, as soon as she walked in, she saw Kiki and his dad inside.

It felt like they’d been expecting her.

As soon as Andrea sat down, Russell poured her a cup of coffe. He was surprisingly polite.

They all sipped their coffee, listening as Kiki recounted what had happened.

Andrea and the two birds looked at him blankly, not getting it at all. Nobody said a word.

Kiki felt a bit awkward, so he decided to stop beating around the bush and get straight to the point.

He said, “I love treasure hunting. I found that bird’s nest while I was scavenging for treasures in Monster City. It was lying on the ground by the back door of some mansion.

“It was all busted up, with holes and everything, tossed in a pile of trash. No decent bird would ever live in a nest like that.

“But I’m kind of weird. I like broken things. The more messed up it is, the more I like it.

“I know you guys probably don’t get it, but I really didn’t steal it. I found it lying there and brought it home.”

‘No, actually, I get it. As it happens, I’m into broken stuff too, Andrea thought to herself.

She nodded to herself but didn’t say anything out loud.

She’d figured the bird’s nest was meant to look like that. Maybe it was some high-tier loot, since there was no pop-up or anything when she picked it up.

‘If I’d known, I would’ve reforged it and checked what kind of treasure it really was, she thought.

Kiki hung his head, not daring to meet his dad’s eyes

Andrea was totally caught off guard. Taking care of a pet was the last thing on her mind right now.

This was a survival world. She could barely handle a pet back in real life, so there was no way she’d even consider it here.

But honestly, she wasn’t too worried. ‘Come on, what self-respecting birdman would let his kid go off and be someone else’s pet?’ Andrea thought to herself.

She gave Windsor a serious look, hoping he’d take his kid and go already.

But Windsor didn’t even look at her. He stood there in silence for a long time.

Finally, he let out a sigh. “Alright then. I can’t really help you out much anymore anyway. If that’s what you want, go for it.”

Windsor gave Kiki a deep look. “However, remember that this is your choice. You know there’s no going back from something like this.”

Kiki stood his ground. “I’ve thought it through. I’ll take responsibility for my actions!”

Seeing that Kiki wasn’t acting on impulse, Windsor pulled a card out from his clothes and handed it to Andrea.

“This is his Contract Card. I’m entrusting it to you,” he said, then pushed the door open and walked out.

Andrea was pretty sure she caught Windsor sneaking a grin as he walked out.

Andrea thought, ‘He dumped this little guy on me.

‘He secretly slipped away and freed himself!”

Kiki happily grabbed Andrea’s band Auslies was dumbfounde

Having Kiki stick with her might not be good for either of them.

Andrea was blunt. She worried about Kiki, but she wasn’t about to take on a pet who was a walking ball of cuteness. She hoped he’d realize it wasn’t worth it and give up.

But Kiki didn’t get upset at all. Instead, he got even more excited.

He boasted, stretching his wings wide for emphasis, “I’m super useful. One day, I’m gonna grow into a huge, awesome bird. even bigger than Dad.

“Plus, I will be really good-looking!”

Andrea remembered the first time she saw Windsor. When he spread his wings, they were seriously massive.

‘I wonder if this kid could ever be a flying mount,’ she thought to herself.

Looking at Kiki’s tiny frame, she couldn’t help but think, ‘It’ll probably take him a good ten years, maybe even more, to grow

up.’

Andrea’s skeptical look really got to Kiki. He pressed, “If you don’t believe me, use the Contract Card. Once you make the bond, I’ll start growing up for real!”

Andrea glanced at Russell, who nodded at her. That made her feel a bit more reassured.

‘Why not give it a shot?’ she thought to herself.

She picked up the Contract Card, and as soon as it sensed her intent, it shimmered with a bright green glow.

Suddenly, a system notification flashed in Andrea’s mind.

[You’ve obtained a Pet Contract Card. Bond strength: 100%. Do you want to make the bond?]

“Yes,” Andrea replied.

The Contract Card vanished from her hand, and Kiki was instantly wrapped in a ring of green light.

‘Is he really about to transform?’ Andrea thought.

She stared in disbelief, watching a scene straight out of an anime unfold right in front of her.
