Chapter 58

Andrea quickly pushed those inappropriate thoughts aside and watched as Kiki spin around excitedly, showing off his wings.

I can carry you and fly now!” Kiki said.

Andrea’s mind immediately flashed to the miserable image of Horace getting squished into a ball after being grabbed she politely declined.

After his excitement wore off. Kiki looked like death and cried out, “No way, I need to refuel. Look at me. I’m starving 1 haven’t eaten in two days!”

With that, he bolted straight into the kitchen. Andrea and Russell couldn’t help but wince as they listened to the clattering and banging coming from inside.

After a moment, Russell suddenly shot to his feet. He remembered that all the ingredients in there were bought with his

own money.

He roared, “You little brat, get your hands off my

Then he charged into the kitchen after him.

move.

Andrea couldn’t help but laugh. It had been ages since she’d seen such a lively, heartwarming scene.

She glanced around the empty restaurant and remembered Russell’s diary she had accidentally taken from the cabinet and put in her backpack earlier.

That got her thinking.

Russell really loved cooking, but he didn’t have the talent for it.

With his bad temper, the restaurant’s once-booming business had slowly faded away.

When Russell finally hauled Kiki out, Kiki was still stuffing his face, flapping his wings desperately as he tried to break free.

Russell tossed Kiki out the door and shouted, “The city gates close at seven. If you’re leaving, hurry up and get your things together!”

The dungeon would end when the city gates closed.

Andrea suddenly realized that while this was a quest for the players, for the monsters, it was simply part of their everyday life.

She had no idea what force had thrown them into the monsters’ world, or what the point of it was.

After Kiki left, Andrea turned to Russell and suggested helping him get his restaurant back on its feet.

To prove she was serious, she pulled out the golden spatula she’d gotten as a quest reward.

She’d meant to give it to Dustin to use in the kitchen, but had totally forgotten about it.

Now it was the perfect time to use it.

Russell’s eyes lit up when he saw the golden spatula. He obviously knew what it was.

But then he shook his head and laughed at himself. “You think it’s that easy? People already think my place has a had rep They say my food is downright awful

“Nobody’s gonna show up. Besides, I’m doing fine by taking it easy. Why bust my ass for a business?

Andrea could tell that even though he was saying all that, his eyes were practically glued to the golden spatula.

She decided to give him some advice. “That’s why you need to get the word out, or maybe offer some free samples?

“Free” That’s throwing money away. No way!” As soon as gold coins were mentioned, Russell immediately looked away and waved his hands like crazy.

Andrea said, placing the golden spatula in his hand. “It’s not coming out of your pocket.

“I’m investing 100 thousand and 100 gold coins. You get to manage the funds. We’ll sign an agreement. Once you start making a profit, give me my cut.”

After all, 100 thousand gold coins were already his. The extra 100 was Andrea’s way of investing in the future.

Besides, that golden spatula was seriously valuable.

So she felt that she wasn’t really taking anything for free.

‘Is this for real?’ Russell wondered.

He wasn’t buying it.

“What’s with the 100?” he asked, sounding a bit puzzled.

Andrea flashed a big, toothy grin. “It’s a little token of my sincerity.”

Russell still looked confused.

But he was absolutely enchanted by the golden spatula in his hand.

He kept stroking it, feeling a special bond forming. Honestly, he was itching to cook something right then and there.

After a moment of hesitation, he steeled himself and agreed to go straight to the Management Office with Andrea to file the paperwork and sign the agreement.

An hour later, Andrea and Russell walked out of the management office, both looking pretty pleased with themselves.

They each held a copy of the agreement with their signatures and fingerprints on it.

Russell held the 100 grand and 100 gold coins Andrea had given him. The more he looked at her, the more he liked her. He felt that having her as a partner wasn’t such a bad idea after all.

Andrea glanced at her dashboard and saw a new account for extra earnings pop up. Finally, she could relax.

Andrea was worried the profits might get credited to Orion instead of her, meaning all her effort would go to waste.

She gave the recipe book back to Russell. Since Dustin had already uploaded it to the system, there was no reason for her to hang onto it.

She felt that maybe Russell could actually put it to good use

Russell was clearly pleased to have the recipe book in his hands again, and didet mestio

[Russell Goodman’s affection has risen to 70. Looks like you two are pretty good friends now!

Andrea was speechless.

Oh my god, I want to bolt out of here, she thought.

She couldn’t help but wonder if Russell’s affection would drop to negative if he realized those 100000 gold coins were actually his.

Russell was eager to get back to the kitchen and start cooking, while Andrea couldn’t wait to escape this

They were totally on the same page and split up fast.

Andrea made her way to the city gates. It was already 6:40 PM.

A bunch of players had already gathered at the dock, all waiting for the transfer.

The rules for this dungeon were clear. Players had to make it to the dock area by 7 PM, or they would not be able to transport back to their islands.

Andrea blended into the crowd, keeping a low profile.

She’d already tucked Kiki into her pet backpack, so he would tag along with her when she got sent back to the island.

Once she bonded with a pet, she automatically got a pet backpack. It had 350 cubic feet of space, but could only carry one bonded pet at a time.

Andrea scanned the crowd a few times, but didn’t spot Gwen anywhere.

“That girl is so absent-minded. I hope she didn’t space out and forget!’ Andrea thought.

She quickly sent Gwen a private message to remind her.

Then, she got a system notification.

[Congratulations! You’ve helped complete a side quest by rescuing a player who was being held captive. Your reward has been sent.]

Andrea was confused.

‘What the heck is this?’ she thought.

She opened the reward and found 1000 gold coins inside.

‘I got gold coins for free? If this is how it works, sign me up for more!’ Andrea grinned to herself.

She had a hunch about what was going on, but didn’t dwell on it. Right now, all that mattered was getting safely back to the

island.

She tried to keep to the edges, staying out of sight.

Sometimes, humans were even scarier than monsters. With players everywhere, Andrea kept her guard up.

But Andrea’s smooth skin and standout looks made people nearby keep staring *

She really didnt like those judgmental eyes, so she shot them a cold look, ready to food a new sea

A person said. “Hey, add me as a friend. My island’s got 30 squares, Want to come check it

Of all times, someone’s actually trying to chat me up right now? Andrea thought

A guy swaggered over with a smirk, calling out to Andrea, but she ignored him.

With only a few minutes left, she didn’t want to cause any drama at such a critical moment.

But seeing her ignore him only made the guy double down, getting even more persistent.

“I’m giving you a chance. Are you mute or what?” he jeered.

He tried to grab her. The heavy stench of smoke and alcohol made Andrea wrinkle her nose in disgust. Andrea slipped a dagger into her palm, ready to slash at him before he could lay a finger on her.

But before she could act, the guy suddenly let out a scream of pain.

“Hey, why not add me as a friend instead?” A familiar voice rang out nearby, and Andrea turned her head. Gwen was right beside her, and with one quick move, she twisted the guy’s wrist until it broke.

She was still smiling. She appeared scary as hell to those creeps, but to Andrea, she looked like a lifesaver.

While the guy was still screaming in pain, another person grabbed his arm and yanked him out of the crowd.

It was the guy Andrea met in the dungeon. She never thought he’d bother to help out.

After thanking him politely, Andrea and Gwen found an open spot and waited for the game to end.

Before they knew it, 7 PM hit. A bunch of players started cheering. “Finally, we can go back!”

Gwen slapped Andrea’s shoulder in a hearty way. “Catch you next time, girl!”

“Yeah,” Andrea replied with a smile and a nod.

But even after 7:10 PM, the system was still silent. nothing happened.

‘Is something up?’ Andrea thought.
