Chapter 59

The players started freaking out. Everyone was talking to each other in panic.

A person asked, “What the hell? Why hasn’t the system logged me out yet?”

Another asked. “Did something go wrong? Are we really stuck here?”

Someone said, “Oh no, please no. There’s no way I can survive here. I barely escaped the dungeon!”

Andrea and Gwen exchanged glances, both thinking that something was off.

They slowly backed away, putting some distance between themselves and the crowd.

Another half hour went by, and the system still didn’t respond.

The city gates had already closed right on the dot at 7 PM, leaving all the players stranded on the docks.

That was when some players started remembering how they’d been attacked by those crazy rat monsters last night. They started glancing around nervously.

The players watched in disbelief as the city gates suddenly opened again.

At the front was a giant rat, Alban Carter. He was storming over with dozens of rat monsters trailing behind.

Alban stomped toward the docks, bellowing, “Dungeon prisoners, don’t think you can escape that easily. Get back there now!”

The crowd erupted into a commotion. There were around eight hundred people stranded on the docks.

More than a hundred of them had managed

to escape from the

dungeon.

If they got hauled back now, there was a real chance they’d never make it back to their islands.

If they couldn’t return, they’d be erased for good.

‘What’s up with this system? Why isn’t it teleporting us already?’ many players wondered.

As the rat monsters drew closer, a lot of players grew frantic. Some were even stomping their feet in desperation.

“Boss, that’s the one who let the players escape!” Andrea saw the little rat monster call out to Alban, its claw stabbing straight in her direction.

it was pointing right at Andrea’s direction.

Andrea’s heart skipped a beat. She wondered, ‘Did someone catch me picking the lock earlier?

‘Oh crap, this is bad.’

All she could do now was hope her disguise would hold up.

Alban followed the little rat monster’s claw and looked over in her direction.

He hesitated when his eyes landed on Andrea, then his gaze slid over to Gwen.

“Oh snap!” Gwen muttered under her breath.

She tugged at Andrea’s sleeve. “Girl, you gotta run. They’re after me!”

Andrea was totally confused. ‘What the hell is going on?’ she thought.

There was no time to explain. Gwen slipped into the crowd, disappearing into the sea of people.

The rat monsters quickened their pace, shoving their way through the crowd, desperate to catch Gwen.

Andrea was racking her brain for a way out. In the end, she figured she’d have to see if she could still bluff her way through with her current identity.

The very next second, the game announcement finally blared out.

[Attention, dear players. The server merge will take place at 6 AM tomorrow.

[The server merge celebration event has now begun. Please head to the designated teleportation point before 6 AM

tomorrow.

[Players who reach the teleportation point before 6 AM will be teleported back to the island.

[Anyone who fails to get to the designated spot will be wiped out by the system.

(Good luck, everyone. Have fun!]

As soon as the announcement dropped, the crowd went dead silent for a few seconds, then all hell broke loose.

People started cursing the system for going

back on its word.

“Have fun? More like this game is having a blast messing

with us!”

someone shouted.

“Yeah, and what if we finally find the teleport point, and this stupid game throws another curveball at us?” another player grumbled.

“Don’t panic, everyone. We’ve got plenty of time. Let’s stick together, find the teleport point, and let everyone know once you spot it,” someone shouted.

Plenty of players managed to pull themselves together and started splitting up and searching for the teleport point. The chaos on the docks at night had drawn a bunch of birdfolk out to watch the drama unfold.

They kept their distance, watching the players run around like headless chickens.

Most of the birdfolk looked indifferent, though a few with a soft spot couldn’t help but feel bad for the players.

None of them dared to step in. The rules were clear. NPCs couldn’t help players with their quests, or they’d get slapped with a fine.

The rat monsters had been weaving through the crowd, but they hadn’t managed to catch Gwen.

With the chaos breaking out, the crowd started pushing toward Andrea.

After all, in a mess like this, everyone was waiting for a leader to make a call.

Alban stared at Andrea, a puzzled look on his face. He couldn’t figure out why his boss was blending in so naturally with the

human players.

But he didn’t press the issue. He waited for Andrea’s instructions.

He also reported that Kiki and his dad had escaped.

“No big deal. They are just some random junk. If they are gone, let them be. No need to stir things up,” Andrea said calmly.

Alban’s eyes went wide, genuine awe in his voice. “That nest was worth a million gold coins, and you shrugged it off like it’s no big deal. Boss, you’re seriously badass!”

Andrea was stunned.

‘What did you just say?’ Andrea’s mind was spinning.

She tried to keep her cool, but her heart was racing. I’ve gotta check out that crappy bird nest when I get back to the island, she thought.

Andrea was about to tell the rats to go find the teleport spot.

Before she could even say anything, a deafening crash rang out from the city gates, like something massive had fallen from above.

The gates were reduced to rubble in an instant.

The players froze in shock as stone fragments went flying, smacking into people left and right.

Everyone scattered, clutching their heads and howling in panic.

The smoke was still thick. Everyone was squinting, trying to see what was inside. But it was impossible to make anything out.

Suddenly, a shimmering holographic screen appeared in front of everyone, highlighting a spot in the haze. Giant glowing letters floated above it.

It read: [Teleport Point].

“The teleport point’s here. Move it!” someone yelled.

The quick ones dashed straight for the teleport point, not even caring about the smoke or any danger.

Everyone nearby followed right behind.

But the moment they stepped past the city gates, they were tossed right back out.

A dozen or so people were flung high into the air and slammed down over ten yards away. Most of them didn’t even move afterward.

Nobody could tell if they were knocked out or actually dead.

That sight freaked out everyone else. They all scrambled back to a safe distance, not daring to get any closer,

Andrea spotted the teleport point, but she kept her cool and stayed put.

The smoke hadn’t cleared yet, but she could barely make out a shadow. Something big was definitely moving in there.

A thunderous beastly cry shook the ground.
