Dominic stood with his back to her, the chill radiating from his body almost freezing the air around him.

He didn’t turn around, his voice cold as ice:

Letty screamed, her nails clawing bloody scratches on the bodyguards’ arms.

“You can’t treat me like this! I did it all because I love you…”

Dominic finally turned around, his eyes filled with surging hatred and disgust.

“Love?”

“Do to her exactly what she did to Mia. Don’t leave out a single thing!”

The bodyguards exchanged glances, one of them asking cautiously:

“Mr. Cross, everything?”

Dominic said in a deep voice:” EVERYTHING.”

“Remember, make sure she’s conscious to feel every bit of pain.”

Letty’s face went deathly pale instantly. She finally realized Dominic wasn’t joking.

“No… Dominic, I was wrong! I was really wrong!”

She cried and begged for mercy, but only received Dominic’s cold, retreating figure in return.

The bodyguards hesitated no longer, dragging the wailing Letty until she disappeared at the end of the airport’s VIP passage.

When the plane landed domestically, night had fallen thick.

Dominic sat in the empty living room, his fingertips caressing the ring that had long lost its warmth. The name “Mia” engraved inside the ring pressed painfully against his finger.

When his assistant’s call came through, he didn’t even lift his head.

“Mr. Cross, Miss Letty… has been dealt with.”

The assistant’s voice carried a barely detectable tremor.

“Following your instructions, she was thrown into the coastal waters. The rescue team searched all night but found no one. She probably… couldn’t swim back up.”

Dominic hummed in acknowledgment, his tone revealing no emotion.

He hung up the phone, still staring at the ring as if it were the only light in the world.

Letty’s death brought him no relief; the void in his chest only grew larger.

Some debts couldn’t be settled with a single life.

Half a month later, Dominic appeared in New York again, only to see ribbons and balloons fluttering in the wind beneath the apartment

building.

The beautiful wedding invitations scattered on the ground stung his eyes.

Today was Mia and Winston’s wedding.

Like a lost soul, he wandered to the venue entrance.

Through the large windows, he saw Mia in a stunning white wedding gown, her arm linked with Winston’s, walking down the aisle lined with

white roses and baby’s breath.

Soft golden light illuminated her, her smile so radiant it seemed she had never been hurt, happiness practically glowing from within.

It was a look he hadn’t seen in so long.

No coldness, no distance-only tenderness soaked in love.

Dominic remembered that once, at their wedding, she had looked at him with the same brilliant radiance.

He had personally destroyed the happiness that should have been his.

When the officiant asked if she took Winston to be her husband, Mia answered without hesitation:

“I do.”

Her voice was clear and bright, carrying the firmness of release.

“I’ve finally let go of the past and found a present worth cherishing.”

Winston lowered his head, placing a gentle kiss on her lips, his voice tender yet solemn:

“I will spend my lifetime proving that my love is not a momentary impulse.”

“Mia, I love you!”

Thunderous applause erupted, guests rising to their feet with congratulations and cheers.

Dominic stood outside like an island abandoned by the world.

Sunlight fell on him, but couldn’t warm his already frozen heart.

So this was what true loss meant.

Not her disappearing into the crowd, but her living well while having nothing to do with him anymore. In her happiness, there would never again be a place for him.

He didn’t step forward, just stood quietly until the wedding ended, watching Mia and Winston leave together, watching them embrace and kiss in the golden hour light, watching that blissful smile on her face that he could never obtain.

After returning home, the first thing Dominic did was sign all the property transfer agreements.

He transferred all of his company’s shares, properties under his name, funds in his accounts… all liquidatable assets to Mia’s name, with only

one note.

“What I owe you-using these to repay is still far from enough.”

After completing all this, he went to the seaside.

It was the place where they had once held their wedding, the azure seawater surging, overlapping with memories.

He wore a black suit, like attending a long overdue appointment, clutching that ring tightly in his hand.

The sea breeze tousled his hair as he gazed at the shimmering water, Mia’s smiling face seeming to appear before his eyes again.

She wore a white dress, running toward him on the beach, laughing as she said: “Dominic, I’m willing to marry you.”

Back then, he had been so close to happiness, able to touch it with an outstretched hand.

He took out the wedding ring that had never left his side, kissed it gently, then walked step by step toward the deep sea.

When the seawater reached his chest, he seemed to see seventeen-year-old Mia standing at the alley entrance, anxiously calling his name.
