Chapter 8
Cain dropped to his knees without hesitation.
“Good. That’s where someone like you belongs-on your knees FOREVER.”
“But your sincerity still seems lacking. What should we do about that?”
Cain’s expression turned panicked again.
As if struck by a thought, his eyes fell on the remote in his hand, gradually turning vicious.
Luna caught his intention and screamed:
“No! Cain, you can’t do this to me!”
“Luna, don’t you love me? If you love me, you should sacrifice for me. If you hadn’t pissed off Vera, none of this would’ve happened. Don’t worry, I’ll burn extra offerings for you.”
The next second, Luna’s cage opened wide.
The mob rushed in.
Her screams echoed throughout the chamber.
The wedding guests collapsed to one side, retching. When they looked at me, their eyes were filled with terror.
Margaret was so traumatized she fainted.
Now she and Richard were a matched pair.
Cain crawled toward me on his knees:
“Vera, I avenged you! No one will ever challenge you again! Please forgive me!”
I lifted his chin with my finger, leaning close to whisper like a demon:
“Don’t worry. You served me for over ten years-I won’t abandon you.”
Before Cain could feel relieved, I continued:
“Starting today, Hart Industries belongs to me. As for you and Richard, I have plans for you both.”
That day, Luna was rushed to the hospital covered in blood, but couldn’t be saved.
Hart Industries issued an announcement: The chairman and president were killed in a robbery overseas, and the company would be taken over
entirely by the eldest daughter, Vera Hart.
As for my stepmother, she went completely insane and was committed to a psychiatric hospital.
Some people wondered how the Hart family suffered such tragedy right after hosting a wedding, secretly asking the guests who attended.
The answers were remarkably consistent:

“No idea. I just know that from now on, whatever Miss Hart says, we listen.”
Two weeks later, Xander and I went to the Golden Triangle for Grandfather’s birthday.
He showed me a video.
Still in that castle.
Richard and Cain, who were supposed to be “dead,” knelt on the ground with bloodied faces before my mother’s portrait.
Those creatures whipped them with iron cables while playing a recording:
“Fucking animals! How dare you harm the Boss and her mother!”
“From now on, kowtow to Madam’s portrait two hundred times daily. Miss even one, and we’ll make you beg to live and pray to die!”
Richard and Cain kowtowed numbly, constantly apologizing.
I thought they finally had time to properly learn their place.
“Keep them alive. No suicide, no killing them. Three meals a day-forget real food, slop is perfect for these ingrates.”
“I want them to live as long as possible in daily pain and torture.”
erstood.”
ting down the tablet, Xander draped a blanket over me, saying gently:
“Boss, you’ve worked hard lately. The plane’s taking off soon-get some rest.”
I looked at him:
“Even though Grandfather sent you as my bodyguard, if you want your freedom, I won’t keep you.”
“No. My mission is protecting and caring for the Boss. I’ll stay with you forever.”
I said nothing more and closed my eyes.
Whether someone protects and cares for me doesn’t matter.
From the moment I bit off my torturer’s finger in that hellish place.
From when I built my own power in desperation-even without Grandfather, I could’ve fought my way out with my own people.
It was already destined that from then on, I would be my own strength to rely on.
