Wait…Why Did Everyone I Love Suddenly Call Me a Bitch?! novel Chapter 51

Chapter 4

The doctor told me I wasn’t supposed to drink.

But I had no choice. I needed the money.

These past few years, just to survive, I’d given up my dignity. I’d do anything. A few bottles of liquor? That was nothing.

Everyone here tonight was Jackson’s friend. They all knew our story.

Three years ago, when Jackson was getting rejected by every investor, when the banks were breathing down his neck so hard he almost jumped off a building-1 dumped him.

Jackson went crazy looking for me. Got into a car accident because of it.

When he was lying in that hospital bed, begging me not to leave, I walked away anyway.

These people hated me for it. They wanted payback on Jackson’s behalf. Of course they weren’t going to go easy on me.

They kept pouring drinks down my throat until I was barely conscious, slumped over the table like a rag doll.

When I reached for another bottle, Jackson snapped. He grabbed my wrist, hard.

“So you really will do anything for money, huh?!”

I lifted my head, dazed, and reached out like a beggar.

“Jackson… the money… you promised…”

“You said… if I drank… if I took care of your friends… you’d pay me. You said… you wouldn’t take it back…”

Something complicated flickered in Jackson’s eyes as he stared at me.

His fingers brushed over my wrist-over the jagged scars there.

After my parents died in that crash, I’d spiraled into depression. I’d tried to slit my wrists more than once.

Every time, Jackson had pulled me back from the edge.

Back then, he’d held me and begged:

“Ava, you still have me. Even if it’s just for me-please, just stay alive. Okay?”

Now, he jerked his hand away like he’d touched something filthy.

His smile turned cruel.

“Yeah, I promised. But… look at my boys. Did you really take care of them?”

They circled around me, eyes cold, lips curved in cruel amusement, watching me like I was some kind of joke.

They weren’t even drunk yet. But I was already wasted. Definitely not what you’d call good service.

I clutched my stomach, trying not to throw up, and forced a stupid grin.

“Then… I’ll start over. I’ll do it right this time. I promise.”

When I reached for another bottle, Jackson finally lost it.

He kicked the table over.

The crash of shattering glass echoed through the room. I went down with it, my palms landing on broken shards. Blood everywhere.

Suddenly, my bestie Chloe burst through the door and threw herself at me, pulling me into her arms.

“Ava! Oh my God, are you okay?!”

She looked up at Jackson, eyes blazing with fury.

“What the hell is wrong with you?! Ava did so much for you, and you just forced her to drink like that!”

“She has stomach cancer! Do you even care that she might die?”
