Chapter 4
Dad’s 60th birthday finally arrives.
I take time off work to escape Brooklyn’s drama and head home.
I’ve got that watch wrapped perfectly-gonna surprise Dad at his party.
Maybe this nightmare will finally end.
We booked this nice restaurant. Mom invited her friend Carol, who thought it’d be fun to bring some of our younger friends to “liven things up.”
When I see Brooklyn and Blake walk through the door, my blood turns to ice.
Carol has no clue what went down between us.
The party starts and everyone’s toasting Dad. I walk up with my fancy gift box.
“Happy birthday, Dad. I got you something special.”
Dad’s beaming as he takes it. Mom goes, “Our baby’s all grown up, buying presents for Daddy.”
It’s such a sweet moment.
Then I catch Brooklyn in the corner, staring at that box like it personally offended her.
In her twisted brain, this whole beautiful scene is just me putting on an act to hide my “affair.”
Dad’s about to unwrap it when Brooklyn loses it.
“STOP!”
She screams and charges over, grabbing the box right out of Dad’s hands.
Everyone freezes.
She’s holding my gift like evidence at a murder trial, tears streaming down her face.
“Mira! How long are you gonna keep this act up! Using your own father as a cover story for Blake’s present! Have you no SHAME!”
The entire restaurant goes silent.
Dad and Mom turn white with shock. Dad stands up. “What is this girl talking about!”
But Brooklyn’s completely unhinged now.
Without waiting for anyone to react, she HURLS the box onto the floor.
CRASH.
The sound cuts right through me.
Then she STOMPS on it with her heel, crushing the watch face into pieces.

Wait… Why Did Everyone I Love Suddenly Call Me a Bitch?!
That was the watch I’d carefully picked out for my dad, now just a pile of broken pieces.
This is rock bottom-my heart shatters right along with it.
She’s screaming like a maniac: “If I can’t have him, YOU can’t either! I’m destroying your little fantasy right here, right now! Everyone needs to see what a fraud you are!”
This is it-the moment she thinks she’s won, thinks she’s exposed my “true colors.”
That’s when Blake walks over, looking sick to his stomach.
“Brooklyn… I paid for that watch. I transferred Mira money to buy Uncle David a birthday gift.”
