Chapter 136
Chicago Airport.
Ryan Walker immediately spotted Victor Bennett as he emerged from the arrival gate, shielded by several bodyguards.
His
eyes scanned Victor from head to toe, and he visibly relaxed once he confirmed that Victor was unharmed.
“Good, you’re safe.”
Victor swallowed hard, handing over the scanner.“But Evan Taylor and his men…”
Ryan glanced at Clara, who was walking towards them, and cut him off.
“Clara knows Evan, but she doesn’t know he works for me. Don’t give us away, Victor.”
With that, he took the scanner, his slightly trembling hands betraying that he wasn’t as calm as he appeared.
“Don’t worry, Evan won’t die.”
Seeing Ryan’s obvious concern, Victor couldn’t help but chuckle.
Could Ryan really think Clara was oblivious to his feelings?
It seemed even someone like Ryan Walker wasn’t immune to the mind–numbing effects of love.
Victor reached into his pocket and touched something. Suddenly remembering, he pulled out the yellowed piece of paper and handed it
to Ryan.
“I found this under the velvet–lined metal box. The address isn’t complete; I can only make out West Pier Warehouse No3. The rest was ruined by water damage.”
Ryan took the note, folded it carefully, and slipped it into his suit’s inner pocket.“I’ll have someone check it out. I’ll have an answer for you within three days, Victor.”
Clara spotted Victor emerging from the arrival gate and hurried over to them.
Seeing that he was unharmed, she visibly relaxed.“Do you have it?” she asked.
“Right here.”
Ryan held up the scanner.“Let’s go. I’ll make a copy
for you when we get back.”
“I remember Chris Evans is handling your mother’s case. You can hand this over to him when you get back to work tomorrow.”
“Okay.”
Clara nodded, turning to walk beside Ryan as she typed on her phone.
Victor felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. He pulled it out and raised an eyebrow at the message from Clara.
“Did you come back alone? Where’s Evan?”
Victor chuckled to himself. He knew Clara couldn’t be fooled.
“He’s fine, don’t worry.”
With Ryan’s assurance and not wanting to worry Clara, Victor decided not to tell her about Evan’s disappearance.

Morning light pierced through the clouds, streaming into the top–floor office of Anderson Industries.
Clara walked into the office, placed the flash drive containing the information from the metal box into the safe, planning to head to the police station after work.
She closed the safe door, and the office door was pushed open by her secretary.
“Ms. Bennett, there are police officers downstairs who say they need to verify some information with you.”
A hint of understanding flashed in Clara’s eyes. She smiled, without a trace of panic.
“Send them up.”
Richard was really impatient, handing over the evidence he had on Robert to the police overnight, hoping to force her to drop the case.
Wasn’t he afraid she’d go down with him?
Footsteps approached, and several police officers entered the office, led by the secretary.
When Clara saw the lead officer, the smile on her face deepened.
“Officer Evans.”
“Ms. Bennett, sorry to bother you.”
Chris Evans walked into the office with two officers, handing over a notice of assistance.
“We received a report alleging that Robert Anderson embezzled funds and falsified accounts during his time at Anderson Industries.”
“Since I was in charge of the case of Robert Anderson shorting Anderson Industries, I was asked to come and understand the
situation.”
Chris looked at Clara, a helpless expression on his face, feeling sorry for her.
“Officer Evans, I’m aware of the matter.”
Clara took the notice, placed it on the desk, and took out a stack of well–organized documents from her drawer. “However, the evidence I gathered before wasn’t quite complete enough to build a case, so I didn’t reach out to you.”
“I wonder who was kind enough to gather all this evidence for me.”
Chris took the documents and quickly flipped through them, his brow furrowing.
“This evidence is crucial.”
“It perfectly complements the evidence submitted by the informant and is enough to prove his motive for shorting Anderson
Industries.”
“That’s good.”
Hearing Chris’s words, Clara’s smile deepened.
This would not only confirm that Robert had shorted Anderson Industries, but also that he embezzled funds and falsified accounts- multiple crimes combined.
He probably wouldn’t be out for at least ten years.

“Oh, right, Chris, there’s something else I want to give you.”
“It’s related to Diane Bennett bribing Anthony Parker to cause the car accident that killed my mother.”
With that, she turned, opened the safe, and handed Chris the flash drive she had just placed inside.
“This contains evidence of Richard Bennett and Daniel Quinn’s organ trafficking activities from twenty years ago, including ledgers, partnership agreements, and a list of those involved.”
“I suspect my mother may have discovered something back then, which is why Diane silenced her.”
Knowing the gravity of the situation, Chris immediately inserted the flash drive into his laptop.
On the screen, the words “Project Far Horizon” glared back at her, every transaction, every clause about dividing the spoils, laid bare in excruciating detail.
“Is this evidence obtained legally?”
Chris Evans looked up, his gaze probing.
“These were taken from the Bennett Ancestral Estate last night.”
Clara’s voice caught slightly, thinking of what her mother had gone through.
“Please, Detective Evans, help me find out who else is involved in this.”
“Okay.”
Chris carefully tucked the flash drive away.“I’ll take care of it.”
“But Ms. Bennett, in the future, if anything comes up, please tell me right away. Don’t do anything this risky again.”
“Okay.”
Thank you, Officer Evans,” Clara said, nodding, feeling a massive weight lift from her chest.
After Chris and his team left, Clara leaned back in her chair, closing her eyes to compose herself.
Meanwhile, at the Carter Group’s headquarters…
Richard Bennett clutched the agreement he’d just signed with Adrian Carter, a smile creeping across his face. He couldn’t help it.
Sure, Adrian had taken advantage of the situation, forcing him to concede a lot of profits from their previous deal, but securing the rights to the Blade project made it all worthwhile.
Besides…
He thought about the news he’d just received.
Richard’s eyes narrowed with glee.
The police had already gone to Anderson Industries. Richard figured Clara knew that he hadn’t been bluffing. For the sake of Anderson Industries, she would definitely find a way to drop the charges against Diane for bribing Anthony Parker to cause the car accident.
Otherwise, if he handed over the remaining evidence to the police, Anderson Industries‘ reputation would be utterly ruined. As long as Clara dropped the case, the rights to the Blade project would be his for the taking.

“Ethan, a pleasure doing business with you.”
He pushed the agreement towards Adrian, his eyes gleaming with avarice.“I wonder when I can get my hands on the Blade project?
Adrian picked up the agreement, his fingertip tracing idly over the signature, a hint of mockery hidden in his eyes.“Rest assured, Mr. Bennett, I will have the person in charge contact you as soon as possible.”
He had already secured Bennett Group’s concessions, which counted as a bloodless victory in front of the board of directors.
With the core technology and rights to Blade entirely under Ethan’s control, a supplementary agreement of concessions was nothing.
Even if Richard signed his life away, he wouldn’t get any real benefits.
With Bennett Group taking a hit, Clara would definitely resent Ethan.
And with Ryan Walker sick, the position of Chairman of Carter Group would undoubtedly be his.
“Then I’ll await your good news, Mr. Carter.”
Richard stood up and shook Adrian’s hand.
Leaving Carter Tower, Richard settled into the back seat, his spirits high as he dialed his assistant, Eric Clark. “Pass the word: we’re setting up the operations platform for Project Blade. I want personnel, resources, everything prioritized for it.”
As the car pulled into Grand Horizon Group’s underground parking garage, Richard walked into his office to find two figures standing by the floor–to–ceiling windows.
Olivia was dressed in a plain white dress, looking noticeably thinner. Her once–rounded cheeks were hollowed, and there were faint
dark circles under her eyes.
“Dad.”
She turned, her voice a little hoarse.
Richard froze, a wave of sympathy washing over him.“Olivia? When did you get back? You’ve lost so much weight!”
He stepped forward, wanting to stroke his daughter’s hair, but seeing Olivia’s face, so like Diane’s, his hand hovered in the air, then stopped.
Olivia keenly noticed his hesitation, her eyes dropping as she clutched the hem of her dress.
“I just got back yesterday… Dad, did Mom really kill Aunt Anderson?”
Not hearing Richard’s answer, Olivia looked up, her eyes filled with a red mist and brimming with guilt. “Dad, I’m so sorry. I didn’t know Mom did something like that. She hurt Aunt Linda, and I… I apologize to you on her behalf.”
“This has nothing to do with you.”
After all, she was the daughter he had cherished for over twenty years. Looking at Olivia’s pale face, Richard’s love for her ultimately outweighed his hatred for Diane.
“It’s good to have you back.”
“Your mother said you went abroad to do research. How did that go?”
“It’s finished.”
Olivia’s eyes flickered.“Dad, I want to come back and help you.”

“I know what Mom did is unforgivable. I’m not asking you to forgive her, I just want you to let me stay at Grand Horizon. I want to use my skills to do something for the company.”
Richard’s heart stirred.
They needed top talent in artificial intelligence to build the Blade operating platform, and Olivia could be just the person to do it.
Besides, she was the daughter he had spoiled since she was a child. Blood was thicker than water. How could he really drive her away?
“Okay, you’ll still be in charge of the R&D department.”
Richard nodded, then instructed Eric, who was standing nearby,“Eric, give Olivia a detailed rundown of the company’s current situation, especially the progress on Project Blade.”
“Yes, Mr. Bennett.”
Eric responded.
A subtle gleam flickered in Olivia’s eyes, and she quickly said, “Thank you, Dad.”
“Ms. Bennett, this way, please.”
Eric led Olivia out of the office and to the secretary’s department, where he handed over all the information they had on Project Blade to
her.
Olivia didn’t take the documents. Instead, she took off a small jade pendant from around her neck and held it out to Eric. The pendant had a discreet “Q” engraved on it.
“Eric, I need a favor.”
She lowered her voice, her eyes conveying an undeniable command, “Mr. Quinn wants something. He says you know what it is, and you
need to find a way to get it for me.”
Eric’s expression changed when he saw the pendant. He glanced around, and when he was sure no one was paying attention, a troubled look appeared on his face.
“Ms. Bennett, this…”
“What? Are you refusing?”
Olivia’s tone turned cold, a hint of doubt flickering in her eyes.
Hadn’t Daniel said that Eric would definitely help her as soon as he saw the pendant?
Eric Clark gave a wry smile, his face etched with reluctance.“Ms. Bennett, it’s not that I’m unwilling, but the item was moved last night.
I have no idea where it is now.”
“Last night, the eldest son went to the Old Estate, intending to take it, but he failed. Mr. Bennett caught him in the act.”
That’s why Richard Bennett was so eager to go to the Carter Group this morning and sign the supplementary agreement with Adrian
Carter.
“Big brother?”
Confusion deepened on Olivia’s face.“What does he want with it? Where is he now?”
“I don’t know.”
< Chapter 136
Eric shook his head. “The eldest son disappeared after fleeing the Old Estate and hasn’t been heard from since.”
“I suspect he did it to uncover the truth about his mother’s death.”
Hearing this, Olivia clenched her fingers so tightly that her nails dug deep into her palm.
It seemed Victor had believed Clara’s words, convinced that Diane had caused his mother’s death, prompting him to investigate.
No wonder Victor didn’t even bother to call Diane after her accident!
It’s all Clara’s fault!
She caused Victor to distrust her!

Hatred coiled around Olivia’s heart like poisonous ivy. She took a deep breath, pulled out her phone, and quickly texted Daniel, filling him in on the Bennett family’s situation.
However, she didn’t dare tell Daniel that the metal box had been moved, only that Victor had taken it and might have given it to Clara.
–
Daniel stared at the message on his phone, a ruthless glint in his eyes.
“Richard is as useless as ever, letting something so important get snatched.”
“But…”
He stroked his chin, then turned to the man behind him, barely clinging to life.“Good thing I came prepared.”
He kicked the man in the chest, the sickening thud accompanied by a wracking cough, blood trickling from his lips.
“I wonder what Ryan will choose between his own life and his woman.”
With that, he picked up his phone and snapped a photo of the man.
“Ryan Walker, this is the donor who can save your life. West Side Abandoned Factory,8 PM tonight. Come alone, and bring the metal box you took from the Bennett Old Estate to trade for him. Fail on any condition, and you can look forward to claiming a corpse.”
Watching the delivery confirmation pop up on his screen, Daniel smiled with satisfaction.
“The wise submit to circumstances. Let’s hope Ryan doesn’t disappoint me.”
Hospital.
Ryan Walker stared at the photo on his phone, his eyes darkening.
So Nathan Lewis was in Daniel Quinn’s clutches after all!
It seemed that even before he’d left the country, Daniel had thoroughly investigated the Bennett family and everyone around them, even anticipating his moves.
But as far as he knew, Victor Bennett had returned the ‘dongyin‘ to its original place.
Why would Daniel Quinn think they had taken it?
“Boss, let me go…”

Evan Taylor was lying in the hospital bed next to him, his waist wrapped in bandages.
Last night, although he had stopped Victor Jefferson and the others, he had suffered some serious injuries himself.
Ryan Walker’s men had scoured nearly all of Boston before finding him down by a riverbank.
“No.”

Ryan Walker shook his head.“You stay here and rest. Recover quickly and get back to Anderson Industries. Don’t let anything slip to
Clara.”
“This man was captured and tortured by Daniel Quinn because of me. If I don’t go, who knows what else he’ll have to endure.”
“But, Boss, your health…”
“I’ll be fine. I won’t put myself at unnecessary risk.”
Ryan Walker narrowed his eyes.“This is the US, after all. Daniel Quinn’s actions are a blatant challenge to American law!”
Clara Bennett had just seen Chris Evans off and returned to her office when there was another knock at the door.
“Come in.”
Vivian pushed the door open, a hint of excitement on her face.
“Clara, like we discussed, I gave Ethan Carter the fake development plan.”
She handed over a thumb drive, a bit shaken.“He was really pressing me last night, I almost blew it.”
Clara took the drive, plugged it into her computer, and quickly reviewed it. The fake plan had a few hidden flaws, enough to keep Ethan from noticing anything for a while.
“Thanks, I appreciate it.”
Clara smiled warmly.
“No problem.”
Vivian tilted her chin up, feigning arrogance.“I didn’t hold you
“Yeah, yeah, you’re the best.”
Clara opened a drawer and handed her a card.
back.”
“Take a long vacation, go see your parents and brother. This card, use it as you please.”
“Thanks, Clara.”
Vivian wasn’t coy, she took the card and left the office.
The office fell silent again. A cold glint flashed in Clara’s eyes. She picked up her phone and dialed Attorney Brown.
“Michael, the recording I sent you, is it enough to prove that Ethan Carter and Natalie Parker colluded to hide the surrogacy from me?”
The divorce case had been adjourned because there wasn’t enough evidence of the surrogacy.
“Ms. Bennett.”

Attorney Brown said, “While secretly recorded audio isn’t typically admissible as solid evidence, this recording will give the court more confidence in the evidence we’ve already submitted.”
“Also, the police contacted me. They’ve uncovered new evidence regarding Mr. Carter having you act as a surrogate.”
“That’s good.”
Hearing this, a flash of ruthlessness flickered in Clara’s eyes.
It seemed that this time, she would not only be able to divorce Ethan Carter smoothly, but also ruin his reputation.
