Chapter 69 Dividing the Spoils
What Reina really wanted to say was, Anything she couldn’t eat, she could sell for a fortune.
Finished
A Level 5 sweet potato that permanently boosted attributes by 2 points? She could name any price she wanted.
Victor was speechless.
He regretted the question the second it left his mouth.
He wanted to take it back immediately, but life didn’t come with a delete key. He coughed lightly. “Could you spare a quarter for the unit? Just a quarter.”
Everyone knew that the higher the grade, the greater the benefit to ability users.
Every high-level mutant plant they’d encountered before had been ultra-high contamination-even Level 4 purifiers couldn’t clean them enough to eat.
Now that the barrier had been shattered, this girl had taken a Level 5 plant with over 2,000 Contamination Value and harvested it down to moderate-to-low contamination. How could he not keep some?
Reina considered, then nodded. “Fine. Cut a quarter off now.”
She was planning another harvest pass to bring the Contamination Value down to zero-better to split the portion before that.
Victor conjured a machete out of thin air, brought it down in one clean stroke, and a smaller tuber separated from the main root.
His personal guards rushed in and hauled the hundred-plus-pound chunk away.
As they walked, several of them snuck off a small piece and popped it into their mouths, grinning like thieves.
Platoon Two’s mercenaries helped carry the rest. They were salivating, but with Reina and Chloe watching, nobody dared help themselves.
Nash trailed behind, looking conflicted.
Reina spoke first. “Captain Bellingham, I’ll set aside fifty pounds for you when we get back.”
He was her direct superior. Giving him nothing would’ve been poor form.
Nash’s face split into a grin. He’d been about to give her a friendly pat on the shoulder, remembered she was a girl, and awkwardly pulled his hand back.
“Done. I’ll get your apartment application filed the second we’re back. And I’ll personally handle the terrace
enclosure.”
“Much appreciated, Captain Bellingham.”
Reina secured the Level 5 sweet potato inside the armored car, then returned to the field and began

gathering the severed Level 5 vines, piling them into a dozen heaps.
The severed vines hadn’t withered with the main roots. They were still good for one more harvest.
Victor and Nash followed. “You want these black vines?”
Reina nodded and activated Harvesting on the nearest pile.

Ding! “Energy -1. Harvest successful. EXP +20. Gained a bundle of Level 5 mutant sweet potato vines.” Contamination Value: 22. Plantable.”
A heap of fresh, deep-purple vines materialized-stripped of their sinister black coating, they looked vibrant and alive.
Victor and Nash lit up.
“Reina, these can be planted, right?”
Level 5 mutant sweet potato vines were arguably more valuable than the tubers themselves-they could be mass-cultivated in the base’s greenhouses.
“Should be,” Reina answered.
Level 5 mutant plants could survive extreme heat and cold. Whether they’d produce quickly was another question.
Sharing these vines with the base was her small contribution to the community.
She harvested the remaining piles. Hundreds of pounds of fresh vines in total.
Her Energy was nearly depleted, and Victor’s supply of high-grade potions had run dry. They had to stop.
Reina rested in the car while Victor and Nash supervised the soldiers-bunding vines, lashing them to vehicle roofs, and burying the ultra-high-contamination remnants in the soil with water from a nearby ditch.
After a short break, Reina sliced off a few pieces of the Level 5 sweet potato and ate them. Her Energy surged back.
Her Physique also gained 2 points, hitting 36.
Noticing Chloe and the others hadn’t touched the potato, she barked, “Eat. Five pieces each. Now.”
Then, lowering her voice, she added, “This stuff permanently boosts one attribute point on first consumption. You’ll regret skipping it.”
Everyone’s eyes went wide. They went after the sweet potato like wolves.
Reina handed five slices to Ernest. “For you, Mr. Kent.”
Ernest accepted with a nod, climbed back into his seat, and ate in silence.
Reina hopped out and headed back to the field.
