Based on raw stats alone, she’d crossed into Level 4 territory, putting her among Greenfinch Base’s elite

But her talent ability was only Level 3.

On the ride home, Reina leaned against the window, half-listening to Chloe chatter away.

“Reina, I swear my strength went up! Arm-wrestle me-I’ll prove it.”

Chloe flexed her bicep.

“I believe you,” Reina murmured, sneaking an Eye of Insight at her.

“Energy -1. EXP +10. Target stats: Chloe Scott. Age: 18. Physique: 12. Strength: 18. Agility: 8. Energy: 7. Level 1 Strength Ability User (Talent)”

Wait-Chloe was an ability user now?

Reina broke into a grin. “Chloe, congratulations. You’ve awakened a Strength talent.”

“What? What did you say?” Chloe just stared at her.

Reina patted her shoulder. “I said you’ve awakened. Strength-type. You really didn’t notice?”

“Are you serious?” Chloe’s face flushed scarlet. She seized Reina’s hands. “You’re not messing with me?”

“Why would I lie? Dummy.”

Chloe let out a shriek of joy, waking Dylan and Sasha. “Dylan! Sasha! I awakened! I have an ability! Hahahaha!”

Dylan jolted awake and stared at her, baffled. “What?”

Sasha smacked his arm excitedly. “Your sister awakened!”

“For real?” They really were siblings. Dylan asked with the same skepticism Chloe had just shown.

“Really, really!” Chloe flexed again, babbling with joy. “No wonder I never got tired today! I’ve been hauling hundred-pound sweet potatoes like they were nothing!”

“But how did it happen so suddenly?” Dylan still found it hard to believe and wanted to know why.

Natural awakening usually happened before age 16. After that, you’needed gene-awakening potions.

Chapter 70 Chloe’s Awakening

And Chloe was already 18. In two more months, she’d be 19….

“I don’t know either. Let me think…”

Finished

Chloe thought back. “I think… after I ate those sweet potato slices, my whole body went warm, and I just felt this endless energy.”

She’d ridden that energy wave to haul sweet potatoes all day-lifting over a hundred pounds per trip without breaking a sweat.

Whenever she finally did get tired, she’d eat a few more slices of sweet potato, and the strength would come flooding back.

That cycle had repeated itself all day, right up through the ride home.

“Maybe… maybe it was the sweet potatoes?” Chloe scratched her head.

Reina had the same suspicion. After all, they were Level 5 mutant produce with a special attribute tag-the raw energy contained inside was no ordinary thing.

But that raised another question: why hadn’t Dylan and Sasha awakened, too?

She’d scanned them both earlier. Each had gained a modest 2 points of Physique, but nothing else had changed.

Ursula, sitting nearby, spoke up gently. “Dylan, don’t worry about it. You’re in the Corps now there’ll be plenty of opportunities down the road.”

Dylan nodded, looking unbothered. “I know. I’m not in a rush.”

Chloe jabbed him in the arm. “Dylan, we’ve got a whole truckload of these sweet potatoes. You eat one every single day, and I guarantee you’ll awaken before you know it.”

Dylan laughed at his sister’s boundless optimism.

The group chatted and joked the whole way back. Before long, the base’s outer walls came into view.

The moment those sweet-potato-laden trucks rolled into the outer city, every eye on the street turned. People stopped in their tracks, craning their necks, openly gawking.

One man actually tried to scramble up the side of the truck and grab what he could. A mercenary perched on the roof cut him down with a single rifle burst.

It wasn’t until the convoy cleared the inner-city checkpoint that the soldiers finally loosened their white- knuckled grips on their weapons.

But three trucks piled sky-high with pink-skinned sweet potatoes-plus SUVs with fresh green vines lashed to their rooftops-were not the kind of thing that went unnoticed in the inner city, either. Heads turned. People pointed. The news spread like wildfire.

The convoy hadn’t even reached the Unit Five compound before Victor’s communicator was buzzing

nonstop.

He ignored most of them. The one he finally picked up was from the regiment commander, his father,
