The gift box was small but exquisitely made, wrapped in red velvet and tied with a ribbon. It was surprisingly heavy. Inside lay a writing slate.
Seren's eyes lit up immediately. "This is The Onyx Writing Slate," she said, amazed. "How did you find this?"
As an artist, she knew its value. The slate was an incredibly rare and precious item.
Nadine puffed out her chest. "I spent half a month figuring out what to get you. I even flew overseas just to track this down. So, tell me you love it, or I swear I'll throttle you!"
Seren laughed. "How could I not love something so precious?"
"Good taste," Nadine said proudly. "That long trip was totally worth it."
Swain stood nearby, watching. He couldn't believe his eyes.
Nadine had traveled thousands of miles just for a flat, unremarkable-looking stone?
Not to be outdone, Annora presented her gift. Seren opened the box to find a set of three premium brushes, their bristles a brilliant, lustrous yellow.
"Seren, I visited half the specialty shops in the capital to find these," Annora said. "It might not be as heavy as Nadine's slate, but the sentiment is just as weighty."
