We Are Officially Divorced novel Chapter 12

Chapter 12

Ever since Amelia accidentally discovered that photo album, Julian had been unable to sleep through the night.

All night long, his mind replayed everything that had happened over the

years.

If, for the first decade or so, he had been chasing after Elizabeth, then in the three years since her marriage, he had been learning to let her

From the moment she got married, he decided he would only see her as a sister from then on.

As for Amelia, who had always been pursuing him, Julian initially regarded her only as a friend.

Perhaps it was because they both suffered the same pain of unrequited love that he always felt a sense of guilt toward her.

That guilt lingered for many years, until the two of them reunited three years ago.

At the very first glance when they met again, he knew she still hadn’t let him go.

So, for a long time after being urged to get married, he kept pondering the same question over and

over.

Should he listen to his parents and be with an unfamiliar blind date?

Or should he accept Amelia and give her a chance?

In the end, he thought that if he married her, at least she wouldn’t have to suffer as much as he

did.

When he was young, Julian believed that fulfilling her wish would dissolve the despair of unrequited love.

But back then, he didn’t know that getting what you don’t truly desire can sometimes be an even harder fate to accept than not getting what you want.

And fulfilling someone else’s wish is not an easy thing to do.

On one side was the abyss of pain from loss, on the other was the fortress of marriage he was

about to enter.

Ile shuttled back and forth between the two, feeling as if he was about to be split in half.

On the verge of collapse, he proposed the idea of a secret marriage, and Amelia agreed without a second thought.

Julian entered marriage in a state of confusion, not knowing how to forget someone, nor how to manage a relationship.

For three years after the wedding, he rarely contacted Elizabeth, only seeing her occasionally at

group

dinners.

All the group photos taken with many people, he put them all into that album.

In the day-to-day routine, he tried to gradually let go of his obsession.

But letting go was not an easy thing to do.

Out of years of habit, his gaze would always unconsciously settle on her, and his emotions would fluctuate uncontrollably because of her.

Especially after learning about her divorce, he desperately hoped she could escape her suffering and start a new life, which was why he did everything he could to help her.

After all, she was someone he had truly loved; even knowing there was no chance for them, he still wished her a smooth and happy life.

But all of this was only in Julian’s heart; he had never spoken of it to anyone.

They say unrequited love is a secret kept by one person. He thought he had hidden it well, but forgot that Amelia also secretly loved him, so she could easily see through his thoughts.

It was only after losing her that he realized he had already given himself away long ago.

And when the truth came out, his anger was not just because he had been deceived into a divorce.

He was angry that she had sentenced him without even asking, angry that she left so resolutely without a word, angry that she didn’t even give him a chance to explain.

He was also angry at himself for not noticing the signs earlier, for always habitually ignoring her, for not fulfilling his responsibilities as a husband.

He was even more upset, with himself for not realizing Amelia’s place in his heart sooner.

After more than a thousand days and nights together over three years, he had long since grown used to having her by his side.
