Chapter 13
On the third day after Amelia left, Julian tried everything but still couldn’t reach her.
Time kept slipping by, and the panic in his heart grew stronger with each passing moment.
Over the past few days, Elizabeth had sought him out many times, but he turned her down every single time.
So when she finally came to see him and found him looking utterly haggard, she was startled, her eyes full of worry.
“Jules, what happened?”
At this point, seeing Elizabeth appear before him again, Julian’s emotions were extremely complicated.
He had already transformed his feelings for her into familial affection, but had never found the right moment to say it out loud.
But now that Amelia had left because she misunderstood their relationship, he could not delay any longer; he had to find a chance to explain everything clearly.
“Lizzie, I’ve been trying to reach Lia these days.”
“Lia? What’s wrong with her?”
Seeing the tension appear on Elizabeth’s face, Julian felt even more ashamed.
“She disappeared. I can’t find her.
“What? Why did she suddenly disappear? Is it because of the divorce? Does it have anything to do with her ex-husband?”
“It’s because of the divorce, and her ex-husband is involved. More precisely, it’s because of me.”
Elizabeth was even more confused.
Seeing the bewilderment on her face, Julian gathered his courage and confessed
“I am Lia’s ex-husband. I married her three years ago, and I’ve been hiding it from you all these years. I’m sorry, Lizzie.”

This news hit Elizabeth like a heavy blow, and she froze on the spot.
So all those strange intuitions that had once caught her attention were not just illusions after all.
She suddenly understood, but still couldn’t accept this reality, and questioned him in a trembling voice.
“Why did you hide it? Was that fair to Lia?”
Julian was speechless, not knowing how to explain the complicated feelings in his heart.
But his silence only made Elizabeth’s emotions even more agitated.
She recalled her last conversation with Amelia, her heart full of guilt and regret.
If she had known carlier that Amelia’s husband was Julian, she would have extinguished all those inappropriate thoughts, and never would have mentioned them in front of her.
The thought that she had become an unwitting catalyst for the breakdown of their marriage made Elizabeth feel unbearable pain, even though it was unintentional.
“The one you should apologize to isn’t me, it’s Lia!”
“I know, but after the divorce she disappeared, and I can’t find her at all.”
Hearing this, Elizabeth realized that Amelia had truly given up, and felt even more distressed.
No one understood Amelia’s feelings better than she did.
“People can’t just vanish into thin air. If you have no way to contact Lia, it only proves you never really cared about her!”
Her words pierced the bloody truth, causing a deep, aching pain in Julian’s chest.
He hung his head in defeat, a sourness welling up in his nose.
“These three years, I failed her. I ignored her efforts, neglected her feelings…”
By the end, his voice was nearly choked with emotion.
Elizabeth, too, was left speechless.
She silently turned around and walked away with heavy steps.
Watching her departing figure, Julian’s grief and regret only deepened.
